The This work reports the research and the application of an adaptive intelligent computer game with a fuzzy decision system developed specifically to help in the diagnosis process of the Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a neuropathology, its main signal is the severe performance impairment of activities that involves executive functions: planning, volition, problem resolution and aim oriented works. The specification, implementation and other relevant aspects of The Supermarket Game are here discussed.

Webgrade is an on-line system for managing and publishing student grades on web. Webgrade provides: (1) to the teachers, features for managing grade plans, publishing student grades, and sending messages to the students by email; (2) to the students, access to their grades and number of absences to the classes, in a private and restrict page on the internet. All interactions between Webgrade and users are done by a web browser. Webgrade was developed with open-source technology and can be freely distributed under GPL.Resumo: Este artigo relata uma experiencia de inclusao digital (ID) do Programa de Extensao Onda Digital com 40 jovens carentes. Abstract: This paper describes a digital inclusion (DI) experience of the OndaDigital Extension Program with 40 deprived teenagers. The IntroductoryInformatics Course had a total of 36 hours and was part of the EducationalProgram from the NGO Eletrocooperativa. Their program focuses on musicalformation, improvement of work condition and citizenship of afro-descendantsBrazilian youngsters. This DI experience counted with the participation ofstudents from the Computer Science undergraduate course of UFBA asmonitors and instructors. The management of the course, preparation oflessons and pedagogical material was done using a collaborative tool basedon free software. The course content was also based on free softwareapplications using GNU/Linux operating system. The results were veryencouraging: from the 22 students that successfully finished the course, 13found a job in less than six months and 2 decided to take preparatory coursesfor entering university. We believe that initiatives like this one motivateteenagers to aim for the university or enter the job market.

ATM: a New Heuristic Algorithm Based on Genetic Algorithm and Betting Theory

Aluizio Lima Filho; Danilo Vettorazzi; Adriano Joaquim de Oliveira Cruz; Cabral Lima

This paper proposes a new heuristic algorithm for combinatorial optimization. This algorithm is based on genetic algorithm and betting theory. It applies probabilistic recombination to a solution given as input and returns a new solution much more optimized. Experiments using arrays from the library of the Travel Salesman Problem have been done and the obtained results have demonstrated that this algorithm is very efficient, mainly for dense arrays

An new model for robot navigation based on AprioriAll algorithm

Cabral Lima; Renan Lobo; Adriano Joaquim de Oliveira Cruz; Bianca Pereira; Valk Castellani

This paper proposes a new model for robot navigation in dynamic environments. The robot learns the motions of the objects, does motion ahead predictions, and plans a collision-free path to the goal. In this paper two new predicting algorithms, based on the AprioriAll algorithm, and a planning algorithm, using a heuristic search, are proposed. A novel framework and a simulation environment were used to validate the model. The results have shown that the robot succeeds in reaching the goal via collision-free paths at an average success of about 94%.

Wich Probabilistic Roadmap method should be used by a robot in an actual environment? An analysis of the main methods through simulations

Bruno Palma; Cabral Lima; Wouter Caarls; Danilo Vettorazzi

Path planning for autonomous robots into actual enviroments has been an important challenge. Probabilistic roadmaps (PRM) is one of the most used techniques for solve this challenge and several PRM methods have been proposed. In this paper the main PRM methods are analyzed through a huge set of simulations with a robot into complex statics environments. The main results have show which methods are more intersting according to environment characteristics.

Teaching geometry to visually impaired people: the dynamic environment Geometrix

Lidiane Figueiras Silva; José Antonio Borges; Cabral Lima; Adriana Benevides Soares

This paper shows an original research on the teaching of geometry for visually impaired people. Geometrix, a new dynamic environment specially designed and implemented for this purpose, is detailed as well as a field research conducted with a control group of sighted people and an experimental group of visually impaired people. The results of this research established the hypothesis that the use of dynamic computing environments in the education of visually impaired people can help the development, retention and application of abstract concepts. The commitment to develop an pragmatic and adequate environment in regard to the sui generis characteristics of its users supported the foremost purposes of providing peremptory and autonomous learning of geometric concepts, as well as providing adequate applications of these concepts in teaching and learning processes. The results also showed that Geometrix can help visually impaired people to improve their spatial positions. Comparative analyses on time of acquisition of geometric concepts by visually impaired people have concluded that the environment has a better performance than the traditional teaching in classrooms.

Aprimoramento Conceitual e Uso de Demonstrações Matemáticas: Um Estudo de Caso Sobre a Geometria Dinâmica e as Pesquisas de Campo com Ambientes Computacionais de Ensino

Emilia Barra Ferreira; Adriana Benevides Soares; Cabral Lima

This paper shows an original research on conceptual implications from field researches that use computational teaching systems. The results obtained from a case study established the hypothesis that the involvement of teachers in this kind of field researches is a self-stimulation to : i) continue training, ii) enhance the conceptualizations and later teaching-learning processes. The use of mathematical proofs was particularly analyzed in this research and this approach supported the foremost purposes of identify, understand and codify the conceptualizations, known the teaching dexterities with mathematical proofs. The results also have shown that the conceptualizations acquired in field researches are preserved and subsequently converted into both a safer teaching and a better skill in using computational teaching systems.

A dynamic fluid level monitoring application using hough transform and edge enhancement

Marcelo Flores; Antonio C. Thome; Cabral Lima; Adriano Joaquim de Oliveira Cruz

Fluid level monitoring is a common control task in chemical processes. The on-line level monitoring of fluids with different densities is a complex task to be accomplished using traditional sensors, as floats for example. Most of the classic sensors have parameters that need to be recalibrated several times when monitoring liquids with different densities. To accomplish the recalibration, the process must be frequently paused to suit the new liquid characteristics. Besides, some traditional level monitoring methods are not safe for use with flammable liquids. In this paper we propose a new density invariant and non contact approach for level monitoring that is based on image processing Hough transform and image normalization. A prototype was implemented and an experiment in laboratory was carried out to test the performance of the proposed model.
