The influence of intuition and communication language in generating student conceptions

J. Handhika; Cari Cari; A. Suparmi; W. Sunarno

This research aims to describe the influence of intuition and communication language in generating student conceptions. The conception diagnostic test is used to reveal student conception. The diagnostic test results described and communication language profiled by giving instruction to students to make sentences using physics quantities. Sentences expressed by students are reduced and profiled potential effects. Obtained information that (1) Students generalize non-scientific experience (based on feeling) into the physics problem. This process caused misconception. Communication language can make the students difficult to understand the concept because of the difference meaning of communication and physics language.

Using word-pictorial presentation model to simplify understanding concept test of Newton’s law

Jeffry Handhika; Cari Cari; A Suparmi; W. Sunarno

The information in the presentation of the test is a factor that affects students response; it can be the correct or incorrect answer. Assume that students already know the information for an example speed. If the questions related to kinematics, then the chances of students answered correctly are greater than if it related to the dynamics. This potential is used principally to Simplify Student Understanding Concept Test of Newtons Law. FCI (Force Concept Inventory) numbers 13 and 14 used as a comparison of Word- Pictorial WPP model. WPP model applied to the students who take the course of mechanics (22 students). Obtained a positive correlation between WPP and FCI numbers 13 and 14, with value of r13 = 0, 72, r14 = 0, 88. It can conclude that the WPP model could be used as an alternative assessment to assess student understanding concept of Newtons Law

Student conception and perception of Newton’s law

Jeffry Handhika; Cari Cari; A. Soeparmi; Widha Sunarno

This research aims to reveal the student’s conception and perception of Newton’s Law. Method of this research is qualitative with the sample is taken using purposive sampling consist of second semester (25 students), fourth semester (26 students), sixth semester VI (25 students), and eight semester (18 students) IKIP PGRI MADIUN, which have taken the first basic physics and mechanics courses The data was collected with essay questions, interview, and FCI test. It can be concluded that Mathematical language (symbol and visual) perception and intuition influence students conception. The results of analysis showed that an incorrect conception arises because students do not understand the language of physics and mathematics correctly.
