A novel fountain code-based mobile IPTV multicast system architecture over WiMAX network

Hyunchul Joo; Changwoo Yoon; Tai-Won Um; Hwangjun Song

In this paper, we present a novel fountain code-based mobile IPTV multicast system architecture over WiMAX network. In the proposed system, the transmission algorithm at a base station determines the control parameters of a fountain-encoded IPTV multicast stream adaptively to the wireless link states of subscribers in order to provide a stable IPTV service with minimum resource usage on WiMAX network, and the channel grouping algorithm at a server makes near-optimal channel grouping based on channel selection preferences to pursue an effective tradeoff between the channel zapping time and the processing complexity of a subscriber. Finally, experimental results are provided to show the performance of the proposed system.

User centric content management system for open IPTV over SNS

Seung Hyun Jeon; Sanghong An; Changwoo Yoon; Hyun-Woo Lee; Jun Kyun Choi

Coupled schemes between service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Web 2.0 have recently been researched. Web-based content providers and telecommunications company (Telecom) based Internet protocol television (IPTV) providers have struggled against each other to accommodate more three-screen service subscribers. Since the advent of Web 2.0, more abundant reproduced content can be circulated. However, because according to increasing devices resolution and content formats IPTV providers transcode content in advance, network bandwidth, storage and operation costs for content management systems (CMSs) are wasted. In this paper, we present a user centric CMS for open IPTV, which integrates SOA and Web 2.0. Considering content popularity based on a Zipf-like distribution to solve these problems, we analyze the performance between the user centric CMS and the conventional Web syndication system for normalized costs. Based on the user centric CMS, we implement a social Web TV with device-aware function, which can aggregate, transcode, and deploy content over social networking service independently.

Service delivery platform for open IPTV convergence service creation and management

Changwoo Yoon

IPTV brought a new digital era in the broadcasting domain. The main change of digital broadcasting is an advent of a bi-directional interactive service feature. Using that bi-directionality, IPTV provides various kinds of convergence service such as information providing, advertisement, and e-commerce. But the number of services required to be developed and to be provided to users geometrically increases and the lifetime of services is shortened requiring services to be developed within a short period. To support the market demand for a massive service delivery, the IPTV platform based on service delivery platform (SDP) is essential. The SDP is a technique developed to meet the variation in communication and information technology convergence environments, allows service providers to rapidly create and deliver convergence services. This paper describes an Open D?TV service delivery platform structure and method for supporting rapid service creation by reusing pre-defined D?TV service components. We describe key components and functionalities of SDP, D?TV Enablers and its combination for service convergence. We show customer targeted mobile advertisement for Open D?TV convergence service example.

Cloud client-computing architecture and methods for high-quality media oriented services

Changwoo Yoon

Virtualization and cloud client-computing can support high-quality media services such as IPTV and smart TV in a multi-device service environment. Because the device can be a thin-client, we can provide services and devices economically. We describe streaming-based cloud client-computing media service system, interface architecture and application performance. Our system provides high-definition media contents remotely through thin-client STB.

Streaming based high-quality media service architecture and methods

Changwoo Yoon

A system and methods for providing high-quality media services such as IPTV and smart TV in a cloud computing environment are described. The system includes a streaming based cloud media transmission system and thin/zero client type set top (STB). We describe streaming-based cloud media service system, functional architecture and applications. Our system provides high-definition media contents remotely through thin-client STB.

Distributed cloud service infrastructure using mobile devices

Changwoo Yoon

The system and methods for distributing mobile resources in a cloud computing environment are described. The system includes a resource register, a provisioning manager, a metadata repository, and a resource manager. The resource register analyze the requested resource and confirm it when a request for mobile resource registration is inputted by a user. The provisioning manager creates a MVO (Mobile Virtual Organization) and registers the mobile resource. The metadata repository stores metadata information regarding the registered mobile resource. The resource manager controls the provisioning manager to create the MVO, registers the resource, and stores metadata regarding the registered mobile resource information. We describe mobile cloud system, functional architecture and applications.

Improvement of the spatial scalable video codec

IlHong Shin; Changwoo Yoon; Hyun-Woo Lee; Won Ryu

The down-sampling method generally employs strong anti-aliasing for visual friendliness. However, scalable video coding reuse base layer representation for compression efficiency. The proposed method applies down-sampling method at the encoder, where strong anti-aliasing did not be considered. The adaptive filtering technique is exploited for reducing aliasing effect at the decoder. The experimental result with intra frame coding shows proposed method improves PSNR, and reduces bitrate.
