Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of the low level laser therapy in the organization of the collagen fibers with 3 J/cm² of dose in two wavelengths (670nm and 904nm) and in the combination of both on the tissue repair of the calcaneus tendon. Methods: We used 37 female Wistar rats divided in 5 groups which had been submitted to the total tenotomy. Group GA (n= 8) was submitted to the laser irradiation in λ= 904nm, GaAS, pulsated emission, peak power 15W and dose of 3J/ cm², group GB (n= 8) was submitted to laser irradiation λ= 670nm AlGaInP diode, continuous emission, power 30 mW and dose 3J/cm², group GAB (n= 8) was submitted to association of both of lasers and group GCL (n= 7) which the calcaneum tendon was submitted to placebo treatment. The group GP (n= 6) was a standard group without lesion and treatment. The animals received 12 sessions of lasertherapy and submitted to euthanasia on 14 th day after surgery. The tendons were submitted to histological procedure and were analyzed to evaluate the optic retardation (in nm) for the birefringence measurement. Results: The statistic analysis showed that the irradiated groups have higher values of optic retardation statistically significant than placebo group (p= 0,00001). It indicates that all the treated groups show better organization of collagen fibers in the longitudinal axis of the tendon, evidencing better quality in the tissue repair. The group GAB was that shown best results (p= 0,00001) when compared to another groups.Influence of different low-intensity laser therapy wavelengths for rat tendon regeneration following tenotomy Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of the low level laser therapy in the organization of the collagen fibers with 3 J/cm² of dose in two wavelengths (670nm and 904nm) and in the combination of both on the tissue repair of the calcaneus tendon. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of Mat Pilates in the postural alignment and joint flexibility of healthy young females. Thirty-three healthy women aged between 18 and 30 years (56.8±8.5 kg, 1.60±0.06 m and 22.1±2.7 kg/m2) and without prior knowledge of Pilates participated of the study. They were randomly allocated into two groups: control group (CG; without intervention) and Pilates group (PG; Mat Pilates, 20 sessions, 2 times a week). Pre- and post-program evaluation procedures were performed by a blinded investigator and were characterized by photogrammetric postural analysis (PAS software) and assessment of joint flexibility (sit and reach test). A 2X2 repeated measures Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to verify differences between pre- and post-measurements for both CG e PG. No significant differences were found between groups, for all variables. The PG presented no differences in postural alignment after the program (p>0.05). However, the PG demonstrated a significant increase of 19.1% in flexibility (p=0.036). The study demonstrated that a program of Mat Pilates generates significant effects on joint flexibility. However, twenty sessions were not sufficient to cause postural adaptations in healthy young women. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of Mat Pilates in the postural alignment and joint flexibility of healthy young females. Therapeutic pulsed ultrasound (TPUS) is one among several therapies used to promote tissue repair. This study assessed the effect of TPUS at two different intensities on rat Achilles tendons microstructure. Twenty four male adult Wistar rats (aged 6 months) were submitted to right calcanean tendon radical tenotomy, with no ensuing tendon suture, and divided into four groups: control group (GC) did not receive any treatment; group 1 (G1) was treated with 20%, 1 MHz TPUS at 0.3 W/cm2;, with effective radiation area of 1,0 cm2; group 2 (G2) was treated with same parameter TPUS, but at 1.5 W/cm2 intensity; group 3 (G3) received simulated treatment (equipment off). In all three groups, treatment consisted of one daily 5-minute session, for ten days. On the 11th post-operative day animals were euthanized and their tendons removed for qualitative and quantitative analysis by polarized light microscopy (PLM), light microscopy (LM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Both PLM and AFM analysis results showed better collagen fibre organization, aggregation and orientation at G1. The quantitative analysis of fibroblasts (mean 400.7 fibroblast/field) and capillary vessels (mean 2.22 vessels/field) through LM showed no statistically significant differences between groups (p>0.05). It may hence be said that the process of tendon regeneration in adult rats may benefit from treatment with TPUS at low intensity.

Muscle shortening has been associated with asymmetrical posture and Sports Injuries (SI) in soccer players in distinct ages. The objective of the present study was to analyze the joint flexibility, muscle extensibility and the SI prevalence in soccer players according to age: young and adults practitioners. Studied subjects integrated 170 male soccer players from amateurs and professional teams of a sports club from Campo Grande (MS), Brazil. Participants were divided into three age groups: G1 (juvenile), G2 (teenagers) and G3 (adults). To obtain information about injuries, was used a morbidity survey. Anthropometry and clinical tests were performed to analyze the joint flexibility (sit and reach test) and muscle extensibility (Thomas test; Schober test and posture analysis). In relation to SI prevalence, 48 athletes (28.2%) reported SI incidence during two last years, with register of 55 SI; G3 presented 0.68 IS/ athlete, while G2 showed 1.4 IS/injured athlete. Moreover, G2 reported higher degrees of hip flexibility, with range of 26.3±8.0 cm in sit and reach test, and presence of lumbar shortening in response to Schober test. In addition, G3 exhibited greater indexes of muscle shortening in hip flexors, evidenced in Thomas examination. In conclusion, evidences have been showing that professional athletes have presented higher incidence and prevalence of sports injuries. However, muscle shortening scores were more important results in youth soccer players, suggesting a possible interaction between intrinsic and extrinsic as cause of skeletal muscle disturbances in youth athletes.Endereço para correspondência: Silvio Assis de Oliveira Júnior – Curso de Fisioterapia da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul, s/n, Universitário – Cidade Universitária; CEP: 79070-900 – Campo Grande (MS), Brasil – E-mail: [email protected] Apresentação: mar. 2013 – Aceito para publicação: out.
