In this paper, we propose a new gaze detection method based on head pose estimation in smart TV. First, the face, eyes and center of both nostrils positions are detected by using Adaboost method. After that, the proposed method uses the template matching method to find the position of the users shoulder as well as the left and right boundaries of the face. Based on the positions of the detected shoulder and faces boundary, the horizontal and vertical head poses are estimated. Experimental results show that our method shows a good performance in users gaze detection.

The second generation digital video broadcasting (DVB-S2) system has been standardized including the backward compatible (BC) mode with the operating standard DVB-S. BC mode has two conceptual ways implemented: hierarchical modulation and layered modulation. The paper describe the standardized BC modes and presents the simulation result to extract each DVB-S2 and DVB-S stream using the log likelihood ratio (LLR) algorithm

Biometrics has become as one of the most promising technologies over the last few decades. This technique uses a person’s physiological or behavioral characteristics (such as fingerprint, face, iris or voice) to identify an individual. Many researches show that multimodal biometric techniques which combine more than two biometric technologies provides better performance than unimodal one since they use two or more physiological or behavioral characteristics. Therefore, the multimodal biometrics has vividly researched recently. In this paper, we provide a review of multimodal biometric techniques. In addition, we discuss fusion of biometrics and various fusion scenarios that are feasible in multimodal biometric systems. Experimental results showed that the multimodal biometric system based on face and both irises outperformed compared to the unimodal biometric system. Finally, we discuss about some applications for smart TV environment based on multimodal biometric technologies.

In this paper, we propose the modulation and demodulation algorithm design for the DVB-S2 (Digital Video Broadcasting System) considering the system specification, channel condition and transmission scenario compliant with DVB-S2 standard. DVB-S2 system characterized by the various different transmission modes following VCM (Variable Coding and Modulation) , ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation) technique , flexible input stream adapter and wide range of code rate. Therefore DVB-S2 system has a little complexity but we studied the modem synchronization algorithms in detail and presents performance analysis. The proposed schemes are shown to provide a good trade-off relation between complexity and performance. It is expected that DVB-S2 system will be implemented by employing the advanced demodulator successfully.
