While installing a standard fire test furnace of building elements in a laboratory, the planner should not only be concerned with ensuring sufficient room for accommodation, but also with the safety of working personnel and the laboratory itself which will be threatened by the thermal radiant heat from the furnace during an uninsulation fire test. With the results of a standard fire test (test subject area of 3 m X 3 m) and some simple evaluation formulas, this research has analyzed the relation between the distance and the thermal radiant heat under different fire test times, which can be used as reference by laboratories planning to set up a furnace and accompanying safety management. According to the study, there shall be no combustible materials 5.6 m in front of the furnace, and working personnel should stay at least 14.1 m away from the front side of the furnace to avoid damage to the skin. Five full-scale fire experiments on 3.49-ton pickup trucks with goods are described. The test variables used were the two kinds of goods - plastic barrels and wood pallets - and the two ignition positions - on the seat and at bottom center of the goods - in order to determine the basic burning behaviors of loaded pickup trucks. In addition, the fire compartment concept was adopted by covering the goods with a fire-resistant blanket and the goods were placed in. an iron trough. It is shown in two fire compartment concept tests that both wood and plastic goods continue to smolder with no blaze observed after ignition. The fire-resistant blanket and the iron trough in concert, are proved to be effective in fire control, reducing the radiation coming out of the burning goods and preventing the fire from spreading. Abstract In this study, an experiment was performed on the fire exposed area (1×1 m) of a standard wall furnace; a radiometer, thermocouple and theoretical analysis were used to examine the fire behaviour of wire cloths sprayed with an intumescent fireproof coating. The experimental results showed that using wire cloths sprayed with intumescent fireproof coatings achieves a 1 h fire integrity rating for fire prevention and reduces the radiant heat of the fire resistance. The results proved that spraying an intumescent fireproof coating on wire cloths is a feasible fireproofing technique that can be applied to buildings.
