Conventional power conversion unit that is a major part of the propulsion system has applied GTO thyristor as a switching semiconductor device of main circuit since introduction of the 8200 electric locomotive. But problem that quick maintenance is difficult and its cost is increasing occurs because major components of the power conversion unit are slowly discontinued. To solve these, in this paper, it was analyzed the response characteristic of the propulsion system modeling of the 8200 electric locomotive using IGBT which is applied recently to ensure propulsion control technology. As results of response for a Propulsion system modeling, it show that a power conversion unit is controlled by PLL(Phase-locked loop) and SVPWM(Space Voltage PWM) respectively.

This study proposes a re-adhesion algorithm that has stable traction effort for rolling stock slip/slide minimization when deliverable traction decreases by slip. The proposed scheme estimates appropriate reference speed using two encoders for reducing slip and controls traction effort stably and has stable control characteristics for disturbance. The algorithm which uses the maximum adhesive effort by instantaneous estimation of adhesion force stably controls traction effort and gives rolling stock excellent acceleration and deceleration characteristics. And a slip sensing element that can quickly detect slip is used. Load motor and inverter were checked in various slip conditions for creating various line conditions.

This paper study on powering characteristic on speed variation of propulsion system of prototype 8200 electric locomotive propulsion system through simulation modeling. For this purpose, it being applied in the field of railway IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) elements are used. Converter was performed PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) control method that is used to control the phase and output voltage, and the inverter was carried an indirect vector control method to control the speed of traction motor. The results of simulation by modeling and experimental unit, we was confirmed that converter is controlled a unity power factor and output voltage by reference voltage. Also traction motor was controlled by indirect vector control and SVPWM inverter switching method very well.

Fuel cell power system, unlike conventional energy sources, converts chemical energy into electrical energy through electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen. In recent years, railway field as well as mobile fuel cell power system is being studying actively with development of hydrogen storage technologies. This paper presents the feasibility study on small-scale prototype electric railway vehicle application using fuel cell generation system. it is confirmed that proposed fuelcell-battery hybrid system shows good response characteristic about speed and torque based on design of parameter on system. Also as results of response for proposed system modeling, it show that powering mode and braking mode of system is controlled by switching devices of converters.

It is important to consider supply voltage stability in case of design and construction of a substation at electric railway because a urban transit is operated by electricity and it is driven simultaneous in the same section. This paper study on variation of the dynamic characteristic of supply voltage according to the track environment and spatial distribution as driving of urban transits. Simulation tool, TOM(Train Operations Model) software is used to ensure stability of feeder system being used around the world. As results of simulation, voltage of the contact wire is in limits on driving operation diagram of urban transits. Also, it has confirmed that there is a correlation the phase current, depending on the speed of urban transit and track environment like vertical gradients and curve radius.

The GTOs are important device in Korean 8200 series electric locomotive because GTOs which are switches of converter and inverter in main conversion power system frequently fail. Also the price of GTOs are very high. So maintenance cost of GTOs has increasing. In this paper, LCC analysis was conducted for GTOs of the main conversion system in 8200 series electric locomotive. In order to LCC analysis, cost of breakdown maintenance and operating was applied.

In order to understand phenomenon of the electric railway power feeding system in the construction planning step, analysis of the overall system including electric characteristic of electric railway power feeding system, train running characteristic and power consumption pattern and train operatio n plan and gradients of railroad and curve radius is required. This paper study the feeder system by analysis of comprehensive system according to train operation plans, line impedance, running characteristic of train, electrical properties of the feeder system. In order to understand phenomenon to the feeder system of tram exactly regarding export of the field railroad preceeding actively recently.

To maintain contact between catenary and pantograph copper is important in order to transmit power smoothly on Current collection system. But, Arc discharge with strong light is generated because of contact loss. Therefore, Arc discharge detection is important measurement factor judging performance of current collection system. In this paper, It is described to results of arc discharge applying UV detection technology using arc generator. And Arc discharge was detected using the most commonly used processing catenary and rigid catenary and pantograph copper of electric rolling stock for securing arc detection instrument reliability. Results of contact loss detection instrument in this paper will be used for maintenance of current collection quality and system.
