38.2: 302‐ppi High‐Resolution AMOLED using Laser‐Induced Thermal Imaging

Samsung SDI has developed 2.6-inch full color VGA Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode (AMOLED) display with the worlds highest resolution of 302ppi using Laser Induced Thermal Imaging (LITI) method with the top emission structure. A voltage compensating pixel circuit with 2μm design-rule in low-temperature poly-Si (LTPS) thin film transistors (TFTs) was introduced to compensate the variation of the threshold voltage (Vth) in order to improve the image quality. Moreover, an aperture ratio of ∼40% was obtained for each pixel even though the sub-pixel pitch was 28um. The luminance for the white color was 200cd/m2 and color gamut was 74% compared to national television standard committee (NTSC) standards. These results show the possibility of high-resolution AMOLED display incorporating the LTPS technology and LITI method for digital mobile era applications in the near future.

38.4: 6-bit AMOLED with RGB Adjustable Gamma Compensation LTPS TFT Circuit

RGB adjustable gamma compensation circuit to choose one of the three different gamma characteristics for each color has been integrated by LTPS TFT for AMOLED. A timing controller to generate all timing signals for a 6-bit data driver and a scanning driver has also been integrated by the TFT on the AMOLED panel.

10.4L: Late‐News Paper: Joule Heating Induced Lift‐off Technology for Large Area Flexible AMOLED Displays

For large area flexible active matrix organic light emitting diode AMOLED display, we have developed a novel lift off method. This novel technology named as Joule heating induced lift-off JILO uses pulsed electric field for debonding of plastic and the substrate glass. We fabricated the low temperature poly silicon LTPS thin film transistors TFTs on the plastic film. Applying JILO, we can successfully develop flexible TFTs with no damage on transistor performance

The world first LTPS 5 mask top emission active matrix organic light emitting diode AMOLED panel was fabricated by forming the data and the pixel in one step. Employing the coplanar structure of the pixel and the data line, we fabricated the 5 mask 3.5″ WVGA AMOLED successfully.
