Spatio-Temporal Chirped Amplification for avoiding spectral modifications in ultra-short Petawatt lasers Pulse

Amplification of large bandwidth pulses in a spatio-temporal configuration is demonstrated at 28 mJ for avoiding spectral shifting in high energy power amplifiers in CPA laser chain. Application to hundreds joules pulses will be discussed.

Gain narrowing and spectral shifting control in Apollon-10P, petawatt hybrid CPA laser system

Apollon-10P is a French funded 10 petawatt hybrid CPA laser system (OPCPA and titanium doped power amplifiers) that will be operating in 2013. The system will deliver pulses with energy of 150 joules in 15 fs pulse duration at 1 shot every minute. The OPCPA based front-end will deliver 30 mJ at 10 Hz with a spectrum having the availability to handle 10 – 15 fs pulses. The 1.5 ns stretched pulses will be further amplified up to 300 joules in Ti:Sa amplifiers. The choice of this hybrid solution has appeared to be the most efficient one in term of balance between ultra-short pulse duration and amplification efficiency and cost.

We describe a Titanium:Sapphire based PetaWatt laser providing an unprecedented pulse width of 23.7 fs at a repetition rate of 0.1 Hz. Energy and pulse duration measurements demonstrate a potential peak power of 1.12 PW

We present a two stages Ti:Sapphire amplifier system running at 1Hz reaching up to 65J supporting sub-30fs pulses. Extreme care have been taken on the beam profile quality as well as preventing transverse lasing.
