Intraosseous ameloblastoma is the most common and simple type of ameloblastoma prevalent among odontogenic tumors. Clinico-radiographically intraosseous ameloblastoma presents as slow, painless swelling or expansion of the jaws and described as multilocular expansile radiolucency that occurs most frequently in mandibular molar/ramus area. This article describes a case of follicular ameloblastoma involving 45 year old male which is different from the usual presentation, which includes-exophytic growth, different location and without expansion of the cortex.

Ameerunnisa; Chaya M. David; G Savitha; Bk Ramnarayan; Cj Sanjay

Abstract The incidence of chromosomal aberrations were evaluated in the lymphocytes of peripheral blood of 40 persons working in different dental colleges and clinics in and around Bangalore occupationally exposed to X-rays. The age range of the study group was 25-65yrs and duration of exposure of dental personnel ranged from 5-35yrs. For comparison blood samples were also collected from 20 subjects (controls) who were not exposed to any diagnostic radiations. The radiographers showed a significant increase of chromosomal aberrations (mean of 1.00) when compared to controls (mean of 0.50). Though dental personnel showed increase in frequency of chromosomal aberrations but the results were not statistically significant. Frequency of chromosomal aberrations was also compared on bases of age, gender and duration of exposure, results were not statistically significant.

Ps Shilpa; Chaya M David; Rachna Kaul; Cj Sanjay; Bk Ram Narayan

Dentinogenesis imperfect (DI) is a hereditary dentine disorder affecting both deciduous and permanent teeth. DI is caused by mutations in genes encoding for type I collagen leading to discoloration of teeth. Shield around 30 years ago classified DI into 3 types (type I, II, and III). DI type I is associated with osteogenesis imperfect (OI), which is an inheritable disorder of connective tissue. Bone fragility and fracture of bone with minor trauma are hallmarks of this disorder. The objective of this article is to report and review a rare case of DI with OI affecting 4 generations of the family. Through this article, we intend to highlight genetic influence that affected a family for many generations, discuss the oral manifestations that can lead to the diagnosis of OI, and the importance of early diagnosis of OI.

Drug induced neutropenia manifesting as oral ulcerations

Rachna Kaul; Chaya M David; G Savitha; J Rema; Bk Ramnarayan; Cj Sanjay; Ps Shilpa

As dental practitioners, we often come across oral ulcerations of varied etiology. Among all the causes of oral ulcers, those due to neutropenia are significant. Neutropenia can occur in many systemic conditions and also in patients on long-term therapy of certain drugs like phenytoin. The diagnosis of neutropenia in time leads to early recognition of the cause of this fatal condition. Here, we report a case of a 50-year-old female patient who developed oral ulcerations secondary to phenytoin-induced neutropenia. Early diagnosis of the condition led to discontinuation of the offending drug and significant improvement in her blood picture and also prevented her from falling prey to many other systemic infections that neutropenia can cause.
