Managing Sensor Data Uncertainty: A Data Quality Approach

Claudia C. Gutiérrez Rodríguez; Sylvie Servigne

With an increasingly technological improvement, sensors infrastructure actually supports many current and promising environmental applications. Environmental Monitoring Systems built on such sensors removes geographical, temporal and other restraints while increasing both the coverage and the quality of real world understanding. However, a main issue for such applications is the uncertainty of data coming from sensors, which may impact experts’ decisions. In this paper, the authors address this problem with an approach dedicated to provide environmental monitoring applications and users with data quality information.

Semantic annotation: what about quality?

Sana Sellami; Claudia C. Gutiérrez Rodríguez

This paper outlines an ongoing research focused on the quality analysis of semantic annotation towards better Web Services management. Considering the properties of the annotation process and result, we provide an overview of the main issues related to the semantic annotation of Web Services and our first clues to tackle this relevant issue.

Evaluating scalable matching tools: A quality-oriented approach

Claudia C. Gutiérrez Rodríguez; Sana Sellami

Actually, the evaluation of matching tools is an entire, complex and complicated research subject which we are interested in. Complex because matching systems can regroup several matching techniques and complicated considering their multiple users. Considering quality as an important element to define, use and evolve particular systems (as information and manufacturing systems), we extend traditional approaches and we propose an evaluation approach based on software product quality principles. In this paper, we offer an evaluation method based on a quality model (characteristics, sub-characteristics, measures...) adapted to the specificities of scalable matching tools. To illustrate our approach, we provide some evaluation results over two scalable matching tools COMA++ and PLASMA.

Switching from Traditional Medical Applications to Mobile Devices: Cardiac and Cochlear Implants

Claudia C. Gutiérrez Rodríguez; Anne-Marie Dery-Pinna

Designing HCI in a medical context is not trivial. It needs to provide patients and medical experts with essential information for the tasks to be performed while ensuring the safety of operations. In this paper, we tackle this issue focused on the HCI requirements and expectations revealed by the use of mobile devices (Smartphone for patients/Tablet for specialists) on the assistance of cochlear or cardiac implanted patients. To illustrate the feasibility of our research work, we report several experiments and evaluations attempting to guarantee the safety of operations on adjusting cochlear implants and supporting the monitoring of patients with cardiac implants. This work is carried out as part of an academic and industrial research project.
