Burnout e hardiness: um estudo de evidência de validade

Sandra Cristina Mallar; Cláudio Garcia Capitão

The objective of this work was to verify if teachers who work with students with special needs would show hardiness and, consequently, no burnout, and also to verify the concurrent validity between the dimensions of both instrument Maslach burnout Inventory and Personal Views Survey. Fifty-six teachers, who work only whith students with special needs and aged 1954 years old, participated on this study. Five teachers presented resistant personality to stress and other three, who did not showed hardiness, had burnout. After the analysis of correlation among the dimensions of the two instruments, only the dimensions Control and Reduction of the Personal Realization are positively co-related. So, there is a concurrent validity between the two instruments, and it is confirmed the hypothesis that people who have hardiness can attenuate the effects of stress and develop less burnout.

UNLABELLED The HAM/TSP caused by HTLV-1 infection usually affects patients to disabling states, and sometimes can lead them to paraplegia presenting symptoms of depression and anxiety, impacting on quality of life. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the frequency of depression and anxiety and its impact on quality of life in HTLV-1-infected TSP/HAM patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS This was a cross-sectional study including 67 asymptomatic (control group) and 63 with TSP/HAM subjects. The instruments used were a demographic questionnaire, scales for anxiety and depression diagnosis (BDI and BAI), questionnaire for the assessment of Quality of Life of the World Health Organization (WHOQOL-Brief) and neurological scale to measure the disability level (Osames Disability Status Scale). All patients had HTLV-I diagnosis by serological and molecular approaches, monitored at Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas from May 2008 to July 2009. Data were analyzed statistically by frequencies, the Mann-Whitney test and the Spearman correlation test. Data among groups were analyzed and correlated with functional and severity aspects. RESULTS The results showed that patients with HAM/TSP compared to asymptomatic carriers had higher rates of depression (p < 0.001) and anxiety (p < 0.001), and impairment on quality of life in the areas of: dissatisfaction with health (p < 0.001), physical (p < 0.001) and the environment (p = 0.003). The main factors that correlated with levels of depression and anxiety and the domains of the WHOQOL-brief were: education, family income and social class. CONCLUSION A well conducted evaluation and counseling may help in treatment, for a better quality of life of these patients.

The patient’s adherence to the antiretroviral drug therapy has been one of the biggest challenges in the HIV/Aids context. Among the many implicated factors, this study sought to study the factors related to mental disorders and family support, investigating their association with the adhesion. For that matter, a semi-structured questionnaire composed by social-demographic, clinical and adherence information was applied. The Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) and the Perceived Family Support Inventory (PFSI) were also used. The sample was composed by73 HIV/Aids patients in antiretroviral therapy, aged between 29 and 67 years old on health service in Sao Paulo. The results point at significant indicators of irregular adherence to the antiretroviral therapy and of symptomatic profiles of mental disorders in this population. A considerable correlation bet ween adherence and the “death wish” factor of GHQ were found, and also between adherence and almost all the PFSI factors, demonstrating the importance of these factors in therapy adherence.

Evidências de validade da versão brasileira da Escala de Autoeficácia Sexual - Função Erétil

Ítor Finotelli Júnior; Cláudio Garcia Capitão

This current study has searched for evidences of validity based on the internal structure and the relations to other variables for the translated and adapted Brazilian version of the Sexual Self-Efficacy Scale - Erectile Function (SSES-E), which contributes to the development of instruments for the evaluation of sexual dysfunctions. This study is also related to the retrospective study of permanent files of medical reports about application on men complaining of erectile dysfunction and rapid ejaculation with ages between 18 and 62. The results have indicated the possibility of two dimensions, designated as achieving and maintaining erection. Not only the instruments but also the dimensions were able to discriminate important characteristics of the samples about the primary and secondary complaints, types of erectile difficulties and satisfaction with the sexual relationship. These results are qualified as evidences of validity on SSES-E, also important as being a useful instrument when evaluating specific questions about sexuality, like sexual functioning.

Inclinação profissional e personalidade: estudo de correlação entre medidas desses construtos

Giselle Müller-Roger Welter; Cláudio Garcia Capitão

This work has the presentation of the result of the convergent correlation research between 16PF - The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire and the BBT - Profession Photos Test as objective. The BBT is a projective test destined to apprehend the vocational profile for the purpose of vocational guidance, considering eight drive needs or factors. Although the BBT was designed to be used with adolescents, recent work has shown that it is also useful in the context of career counseling coaching and selection of employees. While the 16PF had its origin in the factorial analysis, BBT’s development is based on Szondi’s theoretical framework, the drive theory of mental diseases, created upon clinical research with psychiatric patients. Although both instruments are based on very different theories, the factorial structure of the 16PF resembles largely to the drive factors evaluated in BBT. The participants were 87 employees (35 men and 52 women) derived from navigation companies and costal traffic, chemical and information technology segments, aged around 29,4 years (SD=8,2). The results obtained in the correlation study confirmed the hypotheses to the convergence between both instruments at the significance level of 0,05.This work has the presentation of the result of the convergent correlation research between 16PF - The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire and the BBT - Profession Photos Test as objective. The main goal of this present study was to investigate the presence of neurocognitive impairments in patients infected by HTLV-1 virus, associated with different levels of depression. 24 of the 150 patients regularly attending in the outpatient clinic of the HTLV at the Institute of Infectious Diseases Emilio Ribas, were evaluated by the team of neuropsychology and distributed into two groups, one with a degree of depression minimal / mild (n = 14) and another with moderate / severe (n = 10). 17 were female and 7 male, mean age 53.33 (SD = 11.9), average schooling 6.6 years (SD = 2.8), and 16 had HAM / TSP. The study delineation was observational and descriptive. The instruments used were the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) to assess the depression state, plus a Neuropsychological Battery with the aim of assessing memory, language, and intellectual and motor functioning, attentional and executive functions. Data were analyzed by calculating averages, frequency and Spearman correlation (SPSS21v). The patients with higher levels of depression had worse performance on several cognitive domains. However, the neurocognitive deficits with statistical significance were found in tasks that assessed auditory memory post interference (p = 0.035) , sustained attention (p = 0.020) and motor speed (dominant hand = p = 0.02 / non-dominant hand p = 0.030). These preliminary data suggest that the neurocognitive performance may be related to the degree of depression and not solely the action of virus in the central nervous system.
