MELHORIA DA QUALIDADE DE ENSAIOS DE AVALIAÇÃO DE CULTIVARES DE MILHO ATRAVÉS DE INDICADORES DE FERTILIDADE DO SOLO

The objetive of this work was to verify whether the results of soil analysis in a covariance analysis of maize seed yield would increase the experimental precision of maize variety experiments. Three trials were conducted consisting of 30 early varieties, 25 considered as super early and nine as normal cycle. They were conducted at the Federal University of Santa Maria and the fertilizer levels were for a seed yield expectancy above six tons per hectare. The experimental units consisted of two rows of five meters length spaced 0.8m in randomized block design with three replications. The soil samples consisted of six sub samples taken at maturity in the rows of each experimental unit. The results indicated that with a covariance analysis, the effect of adjusting the averages seed yields with the soil fertiity indicators was not significant and it was concluded that the covariance analysis did not contribute to increase the experimental precision of the variable seed yield

EFEITO DO ÁCIDO GIBERÉLICO NO RENDIMENTO DE TUBÉRCULOS DE BATATA

SUMMARY An experiment was conduced aiming to evaluate the effect of gibberellic acid on tuber yield potatoes. Seed-potatoes were imersed per 20 minutes in 10 ppm solution. Plants from treated seeds produced 44% more than the untreated.

INFLUÊNCIA DO AMBIENTE NO DESENVOLVIMENTO DA PLANTA DE BATATA

A short review is presented about the effect of the environment on the development of the potato plant. Temperature, day lenght and light intensity affect the development of the above grownd parts, dry matter partition, flowering and tuber yield. Reference is made about soil properties and water. Tuber yield depends on an interaction of several environment factors.

Efeito do cloreto de chlormequat sobre quatro cultivares de trigo em duas épocas de semeadura

Two experiments were conducted aiming to evaluate the effects of the growth regulator CCC [2-Chioroethyl,trimethylammonium chloride] on seed yield and other characteristics of four wheat cultivars on two seeding dates. The treatments were the cultivars CEP 19, BR 14, BR 15 and BR 23 and the CCC doses 400 and 1000g ai/ha in 1989 and 1990 respectively. The seeding dates were in June and July. The only effect observed was a reduction in plant height but there was no increase in grain yield. It was concluded that further studies showld be carried out in order to determine the factors that affect the response of the wheat plant to this growth regulator.
