Brain Research Strategies for Physical Educators

M odern technology has made it possible for brain researchers to see inside the human brain, which is a collection of neurons that make critical choices possible (Czerner, 2001). Although the exact mechanisms of learning are not known, researchers have discovered that learning occurs in a variety of ways (Jensen, 2001). The more that physical educators understand the brain, the better they will be at designing lesson plans that best accommodate how a brain learns (Wolfe, 2001). Researchers further emphasize that discoveries about the brain are being made at an unprecedented rate, thus leading to a revolution that may change the way people think about physical education (Czerner, 2001; Hannaford, 1995; Jensen, 1998). In fact, researchers have learned more about the brain in the past 10 years than they have in the last 100 years (Wolfe & Brandt, 1998).
