Cities are regarded as the backbone of the country’s economy and sustainability. To make a city ‘smart’, we need to build upon the strategies which could mitigate city’s current issues and avert future problems which are driven by the urban society and its rapid expansion. According to the UN urbanization report (2011), urban cities occupy 2 % of the earth’s total area and still they are responsible for the 70 % of the global energy consumption and emission of greenhouse gases. The cities will need to attend to these global facts and take upon bigger challenges of fulfilling the essential needs of water, food and shelter, providing necessary public services like utility, security, and mobility and importantly managing scare resources. IoT and big data with their innovating techniques and advancing technology provides those critical tools which helps to address these topics and lay down the foundation for next generation smart cities.

Abstract The need to develop a clear understanding of multicultural competencies is essential to fully develop a strategic approach to human capital management (HCM). As Slovak workplaces become more diverse, culture and intercultural management has gained greater significance and the adoption of a strategic approach is now critical to the success and competitive advantage of the organisation. Moreover, it is necessary to address this field of management to ensure the high performance of organisations, especially those operating within a global setting. The focus of the research is on the identification of multicultural competencies in the context of Slovak industrial enterprises to measure and identify linkages between cultural aspects and the strategic business performance.

The main objective of the article is to identify and analyse the dominant factors influencing the motivation to perform during a university study in Y and Z generation groups. The selected research sample were the first-year students of the first grade of their study (Bc.) who represented the generation Z and the first-year students of the second grade of study (Eng.) who represented the generation Y. Several factors have been identified in the pre-survey that affects motivation to performance during the learning process within the two generational groups. In the research process, there were used three psychodiagnostic standardized questionnaires (NEO Questionnaire, respectively two of the five items: conscientiousness and neuroticism, Motivation of Performance from D-M-V Questionnaire and the HO-PO-MO Questionnaire, namely its part Motivation to Performance — MO). The NEO questionnaire shows that neuroticism and the scale of performance braking from the D-M-V Questionnaire is much higher for the first-year students (Generation Group Z) than for fourth-year students (Generation Group Y). In overall, Y and Z generating groups have poorer results at a high score of neuroticism and, on the contrary, too low values at high scores for conscientiousness.

One of the current problems of the global nature is environmental pollution caused by industrial production. Nowadays, we know many advanced hi-tech materials and production methods in the car industry, but when it comes to such innovations, the environment is often forgotten. Therefore it is necessary to find a solution that technological innovations in automobiles will go hand in hand with innovations of emission reductions in manufacturing process. One of ways to achieve a reduction of emissions and prevent leakage of harmful substances is to change the structure of the different principles in the production process (substitute auxiliary compounds, change amount of the compounds, the expansion of the recycling process). The aim of this paper is to highlight the innovation of the manufacturing processes in the automotive industry in order to reduce emissions and save the environment and partially point out also the innovated products of the manufacturing process.
