Social and environmental innovations of Brazilian companies

This paper focuses on the social and environmental innovations of Brazilian companies, rather than on merely economic innovations. These innovations are discussed within the context of sustainability. Data were collected via a qualitative and descriptive study from the annual Guia Exame de Sustentabilidade magazine (2014 Edition). The magazine stated that 228 companies responded to the questionnaire. Of these, 61 companies stood out in Brazil for their policies and practices in sustainability and had their results published. The social innovations were geared towards meeting the needs of the surrounding communities. Environmental innovations appeared in greater numbers, connoting a higher stage of attention and interest from Brazilian companies. Environmental innovations were intended to evolve or improve processes and products and to reduce the consumption of resources.

Avaliação de serviços bancários no segmento de alta renda na cidade de São Paulo

This study presents an evaluation of expectations and perceptions of individual bank clients with high income in the municipality of Sao Paulo. A quantitative survey with 190 interviewees was carried through drawing on attributes of bank services as well as models and scales provided by the relevant literature. The scales of quality and satisfaction were analyzed in terms of reliability and validity. The scale recommended by the SERVPERF model proved to be the most appropriate to the results collected from high-income banking clients. Additionally, it was found that, in general, clients’ expectations are high and there are some attributes with great gaps, considering its perceptions and expectations. These results can provide relevant directions to the banks that intend to improve the quality of their services.

Fórum de discussão como ferramenta no ensino de administração: um estudo em uma disciplina de estatística aplicada

This article aims to assess the use of forum tool on the teaching of Statistics Applied to Administration. For this purpose, a case study has been done, with descriptive treatment of data, which focused on an interaction through a forum, occurred on a blended discipline. The forum intended to bring the Statistic´s theoretical concepts and the real use of them on business field. That interaction consisted of discussion of scientific paper which had used the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) on its data analysis. Most of the messages posted by the students were considered correct and relevant, defining a deep discussion. However, there was a high level of repetition, many messages were posted on the last day of the activity and the forum was lowly accessed after its conclusion as a research source. We´ve observed that daytime students participated more adequately than nocturnal students, posting a higher quantity of new and deep messages. Forum discussion tool can be used in education, but it needs a previous planning and anticipation of possible problems, developing actions to correct them.

Estratégias de aprendizagem na educação a distância entre estudantes brasileiros e portugueses

Este trabalho tem como objetivo identificar as estrategias de aprendizagem aplicadas por estudantes do curso de Administracao no ensino a distância. Para tanto, realizou-se um estudo quantitativo e descritivo por meio de um survey com duas amostras de estudantes universitarios, uma composta de alunos de uma instituicao de ensino privada brasileira e a segunda composta por alunos de uma instituicao publica portuguesa. A escala de Estrategias de Aprendizagem foi analisada por meio da analise fatorial exploratoria e obteve uma estrutura multidimensional para ambas as amostras com cinco fatores. A estrutura obtida apresentou diferencas, porem 13 dos 19 itens estudados foram agrupados em fatores equiparados. Em ambas as analises, a dimensao que possuiu a maior semelhanca se refere ao processo de associar os conteudos estudados com conhecimentos anteriores, ou experiencias praticas, recebendo o maior escore em ambas as amostras. O segundo fator com maiores valores foi a estrategia de pratica do conteudo por meio da resolucao de exercicios, leitura do material, ou texto, e revisao de conteudos. A estrategia com menor escore foi a busca de ajuda e trabalho com colegas de turma, o que sugere uma oportunidade para as instituicoes de ensino incentivarem o desenvolvimento de atividades que criem sinergia entre os estudantes. O estudo busca contribuir para a avaliacao de cursos a distância sugerindo a existencia de estrategias utilizadas pelos estudantes em seu processo de aprendizagem, o que oferece subsidios ao planejamento dos cursos, sendo possivel reforcar estrategias ja utilizadas e incentivar novas estrategias ainda incipientes.

Qualidade e lealdade ao curso no ensino superior

The growth of demand in the sector of higher education in Brazil has increased competitiveness between higher education institutions (HEIs), especially on private institutions, due to high requirement of the target market mainly in relation to quality of service offered and, in consequence to the possibility of getting a job after graduation. This work aims to identify, through a case study, which factors contribute to the student to be loyal to the course chosen in a public institution of higher education, remaining in the chosen course and recommending it to future students in higher level courses. In this study the constructs quality, image, satisfaction and loyalty were analyzed. To identify the relationship between these constructs the technique structural modeling equations was carried out. As a result of the analysis it was found that the students loyalty stems directly from his or her general satisfaction with the course.

Technology for training delivery: current issues

Technology has been increasingly used in education, especially in corporate education, or training. Many organizations started adopting online options for their human resources development as an opportunity to reduce costs and expand training to employees who were not able to attend a traditional course. This growth is due to the improvement of technology (bandwidth, browsers etc.) and the availability of a large number of software for distance learning, like platforms, podcasts makers, video makers and so on, many of which being free. Nevertheless, some issues have not been appropriately addressed, such as the effectiveness, strengths and weaknesses of these training programs. This paper aimed to discuss in a critical way the effectiveness and impact of training and development programs, considering the online, technology enhanced, model. For that, the research has a qualitative approach, which includes interviews with online courses coordinators and faculty in Brazil. In doing so, we analyzed the advantages and disadvantages for online training, such as the higher flexibility, lower costs, trainee’s pro-activity and business’ improvement (advantages) and lack of social contact and inability of studying alone (disadvantages) among others.

The Statistics learning-teaching process in business undergraduate courses, especially in Management courses, represents a great challenge to teachers and students. The use of the Distance Education resources, specifically the e-learning tools, may make this process more flexible, reducing the anxiety experienced by the students. However, despite the great potentiality of Distance Education in reducing space and time barriers, bad planned activities that are implemented in a wrong way may cause problems to the educational process and restrict the students’ learning. In addition, problems like attrition rates and students’ low satisfaction can cause losses to the educational process. Thus, this work, which is a descriptive and qualitative research, has as its goal to discuss and propose a method for distance activities introduction and attendance in Statistics subject in Management courses, in a way to provide effective learning. The method was based on the main available resources in the virtual environment of learning-teaching, such as forum, chat, electronic mail, reading material, exercises, FAQ and survey. It presents the definition of the resource, its goal, the type of interaction allowed by each one, and the necessary steps for the activities introduction and attendance. The proposed method can be applied to other contexts, in humanities or biological fields, as it deals with adults’ on-line education. Key words : e-learning; learning-teaching; applied Statistics.

Ferramenta fórum para discussão teórica em Estatística aplicada à Administração

This paper aims to analyze the use of forum discussion as a tool in the teaching of statistics applied to administration. In the study of a forum occurred in a hybrid discipline, the students were supposed to discuss a case study that they should solve (a new business viability research). Most students participated in the activity, probably due to its obligatory nature. Most messages posted were considered relevant, correct and adequate, characterizing the debates. There was, however, a lot of repetition, probably due to the great number of students interacting and to the high level of participation on the last day of the forum. There was little access to the forum after the last day of the interaction, which means that the content developed was not very much used as a research source. In general terms, this experience was successful, indicating that forums can really be used as a pedagogical strategy in the teaching of statistics if there is careful planning.

Desenvolvimento regional e novos paradigmas: iniciativas de promoção do desenvolvimento na comunidade da Mangueira

The regional development principles application has aroused countless discussions on contemporaneous society. A new development vision is being required before the changes aroused, mainly by globalization and it effects. A vision that calls better attention to regional development initiatives. Before this context, it turns interesting to analyze the public politics driven to promote the regional development as to analyze the innovative public politics that aim the regional dissimilarity reduction from a including and tenable development model. Thereby, it will be presented in this paper discussions about the local development related to the main paradigms. Lastly, utilizing a qualitative research, it will be exposed the Mangueira community case in order to identify how the promotion initiatives to regional development are beeing imnplemented in practice. Results point, by new development perspective, that the sustained politics acting include meaningful improvements in social conditions of the local community, stimulating the participation and citizenship, attenuating the effects of unfair social and economic dissimilarities verified in contemporaneous society.
