Summary Purpose – This paper aims to perform an empirical investigation about the constructs and indicators of the supply chain management practices framework. Design/methodology/approach – The measuring framework proposed is based on a survey that was carried out on 107 Brazilian companies. Statistical techniques were employed to verify, validate, and test the reliability of the constructs and their indicators. To validate this framework principal component analysis and structural equation modeling techniques were used. Findings – In general, previous studies suggest six constructs for measuring the supply chain management practices framework. However, in this study a framework was achieved with four constructs of supply chain management practices, namely, supply chain (SC) integration for production planning and control (PPC) support, information sharing about products and targeting strategies, strategic relationship with customer and supplier, and support customer order. This framework has adequate levels of validity and reliability. Research limitations/implications – The main limitation of this study was that only a small sample of companies in a single sector and country were surveyed, and therefore there needs to be further research considering the special conditions in other countries. Originality/value – This study investigated statistically set indicators to discuss the topic ‘‘supply chain management practices’’. The framework obtained has good quality of validity and reliability indicators. Thus, an alternative framework has been added to measure supply chain management practices, which is currently a popular topic in the supply chain mainstream literature. Both defined constructs and the validated indicators can be used in other studies on supply chain management.

This paper examines the current level of adoption of Supply Chain Management (SCM) practices in the electro-electronic sector in Brazil and aims to identify the management and Information Technology (IT) actions that have been implemented to support the adoption of those practices. An e-mail survey was conducted. Descriptive statistics techniques were employed for data analysis. This study makes contributions to the electro-electronics sector and to the topics related to SCM, such as identification and level of adoption of SCM practices. Another contribution of this research is the investigation of whether approaches such as Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP), Workshop with Customers, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Workshop with Suppliers and electronic Kanban are commonly used to support SCM practices. So far, this is the first research on SCM practices in the electro-electronics sector in Brazil.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate how company size and the type of production system affect the adoption of supply chain management (SCM) practices in companies in the electro‐electronics sector in Brazil.Design/methodology/approach – An e‐mail survey of 107 companies associated with the Brazilian Electrical and Electronics Industry Association (ABINEE) was conducted. Statistical techniques were employed to verify the adoption of SCM practices according to the size of the company and its production system.Findings – The major results indicate that the larger the size of the company, the higher the level of adoption of SCM practices, and that the choice of SCM practices depends upon the type of production system implemented.Practical implications – The implications of this study are useful to top management leaders of small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises since the findings enable them to identify the most common practices adopted by either large‐, medium‐ or small‐sized companies in orde...

This article aims to assess the use of forum tool on the teaching of Statistics Applied to Administration. For this purpose, a case study has been done, with descriptive treatment of data, which focused on an interaction through a forum, occurred on a blended discipline. The forum intended to bring the Statistic´s theoretical concepts and the real use of them on business field. That interaction consisted of discussion of scientific paper which had used the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) on its data analysis. Most of the messages posted by the students were considered correct and relevant, defining a deep discussion. However, there was a high level of repetition, many messages were posted on the last day of the activity and the forum was lowly accessed after its conclusion as a research source. We´ve observed that daytime students participated more adequately than nocturnal students, posting a higher quantity of new and deep messages. Forum discussion tool can be used in education, but it needs a previous planning and anticipation of possible problems, developing actions to correct them.

MOOCs can be considered the fifth generation of distance education and can potentially provide access to quality education to students with disadvantaged background in developing countries. However, ensuring that MOOCs provide access to education to these students involves ensuring access to the necessary ICT infrastructure. The question is then whether the access to technology is truly democratic, especially in those countries. The aim of this study is then to assess the potential for democratization of quality education provided by MOOCs, considering the perspective of access to technology. To reach this objective, data obtained from 4.784 students from 27 universities in 9 Southern Hemisphere countries were analyzed. Results show that the potential for democratization of education provided by the MOOCs is limited by access barriers to technology, so that to fully realize their potential, governmental actions are necessary to democratize access to technology and promote the reduction of the digital skill gap.

This article aims to identify the supply chain management practices adopted in the Brazilian electronics sector and verify whether manufacturing competitive priorities of companies in this sector relate to the adoption of such practices. An empirical quantitative research was developed based on an e-mail survey with managers of companies in the electronics sector associated with the Brazilian Association of Electrical and Electronics Industry. Descriptive and multivariate statistical techniques of second generation (Structural Equation Modeling) were used to analyze the data. Main results showed that: (a) the supply chain management practices most deployed are focused on the integration and support of product development activities with customers; and (b) no significant relationships between competitive priorities and supply chain management practices were found.

The Statistics learning-teaching process in business undergraduate courses, especially in Management courses, represents a great challenge to teachers and students. The use of the Distance Education resources, specifically the e-learning tools, may make this process more flexible, reducing the anxiety experienced by the students. However, despite the great potentiality of Distance Education in reducing space and time barriers, bad planned activities that are implemented in a wrong way may cause problems to the educational process and restrict the students’ learning. In addition, problems like attrition rates and students’ low satisfaction can cause losses to the educational process. Thus, this work, which is a descriptive and qualitative research, has as its goal to discuss and propose a method for distance activities introduction and attendance in Statistics subject in Management courses, in a way to provide effective learning. The method was based on the main available resources in the virtual environment of learning-teaching, such as forum, chat, electronic mail, reading material, exercises, FAQ and survey. It presents the definition of the resource, its goal, the type of interaction allowed by each one, and the necessary steps for the activities introduction and attendance. The proposed method can be applied to other contexts, in humanities or biological fields, as it deals with adults’ on-line education. Key words : e-learning; learning-teaching; applied Statistics.
