1. The relationship of cigarette smoking to blood pressure and serum lipids and lipoproteins was studied in 7608 men, ranging from 40 to 59 years of age. Analyses were performed separately for non‐drinkers and drinkers.

標準体重法あるいは皮脂厚法によって, 肥満あるいは正常と判定された被検者の生化学検査成績の平均値と異常値の出現率を比較し, 中高年女性に対する臨床的集団スクリーニング方法としてのこれらの肥満判定方法について検討した結果, 以下のような知見を得た。皮脂厚法のみで肥満と判定されたB群を, 標準体重法のみで肥満と判定されたC群に比較すると, B群はC群よりもβ-LとTCの平均値と異常値の出現率がともに有意に悪化した。従って, 女性の場合, 皮脂厚法は標準体重法よりも脂質代謝異常とより密接に関連していることが示唆された。しかし, HDL-C, TG, FBS, GPTの平均値についてはB, C群間にはそれぞれ有意な差は認められないが, 両群はA群よりもHDL-Cにおいて有意な低値を示し, 逆にTG, FBS, GPTにおいて有意な高値を示した。またHDL-C, TG, γ-GTPの異常値の出現率においても, B, C群間にはそれぞれ有意な差は認められないが, 両群はA群よりもそれぞれ有意に高率であった。さらに標準体重法, 皮脂厚法ともに肥満と判定されたD群の医学的検査項目の平均値および異常値の出現率はすべての項目においてA群よりも有意に悪化した。以上の結果から, 肥満のスクリーニング方法としては, 皮脂厚法と標準体重法が併用されることが望ましいと思われた。
