Benign tumors of the duodenum.

Burton P. Hoffman; David M. Grayzel

Radiation-induced cardiac fibrosis.

Emanuel Rubin; Jesus Camara; David M. Grayzel; Frederick G. Zak

Abstract Three cases of cardiac fibrosis are presented in which radiation is suggested as the cause. In one, death occurred as a result of fibrosis involving the conducting system twenty-three years after radiation; in another, rupture of the apex of the heart occurred fourteen months after radiotherapy. It is suggested that the diagnosis of radiation-induced cardiac fibrosis be entertained in radiated patients who exhibit unusual clinical or electrocardiographic evidence of heart disease.

Studies on experimental coronary occlusion

Robert Tennant; David M. Grayzel; Francis A. Sutherland; Sydney W. Stringer

Abstract 1. 1. Occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery and accompanying veins results in an increase of the lactic acid and a decrease of glycogen content of the muscle deprived of its circulation. 2. 2. When the circulation is reestablished for two hours by release of the ligatures after varying intervals of occlusion, the lactic acid content of the affected muscle returns to normal, but restoration of the glycogen content does not occur. 3. 3. When the circulation is restored in the myocardium by release of the ligature, a series of changes is observed histologically that contrast with the usual picture of experimental infarction.

Dysgerminoma of the ovary

Paul Pedowitz; David M. Grayzel

D YSGERMINOMA is an epithelial neoplasm which, though morphologically malignant, has been considered, heretofore, relatively benign and less malignant clinically than the granulosa-cell carcinomas. It is identical in structure to the seminoma occurring in the testis. Several designations for this tumor have been used in the past, such as smalland large-cell carcinomas, embryonal-cell carcinoma, seminoma, and others. Today the name rlysgerminoma, first introduced by Robert Meyer,’ is commonly used.

Hemangio-endothelioblastoma of the heart.

Harvey J. Amsterdam; David M. Grayzel; Alexander L. Louria

PRIMARY LYMPHOSARCOMA OF THE LUNG (A CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE)

Primary carcinoma of the small intestine.

Jacob Rabinovitch; David M. Grayzel; Alfred J. Swyer

Abstract Twelve cases of carcinoma of the small intestine are reviewed. The most frequent site of origin of this tumor was in the jejunum. The symptoms, pathology and treatment of these tumors are generally discussed.

Criteria for the diagnosis of malignancy in theca-cell tumors

Paul Pedowitz; Laurence B. Felmus; David M. Grayzel

Abstract A malignant theca-cell tumor has been reported. The patient is living and well eight years after removal of only a portion of the neoplasm. Postoperative radiation therapy resulted in the disappearance of clinical evidence of the growth. Approximately 3 per cent of all theca-cell tumors are malignant. Criteria for the histologic diagnosis of malignancy in theca-cell tumors have been outlined and discussed.

Sarcomas of the stomach

Jacob Rabinovitch; David M. Grayzel; Alfred J. Swyer; Bernard Pines

Abstract Nine cases of patients with sarcoma of the stomach are reviewed. In three of these the tumor was a lymphosarcoma; in two, leiomyosarcoma; in two, fibrosarcoma; in one, fibroliposarcoma and in one, reticulum cell sarcoma. The diagnosis of sarcoma of the stomach is rarely made before a microscopic examination of the tumor since the lesion simulates very closely other gastric neoplasms. The clinical and pathologic aspects of these tumors are generally discussed.
