This paper presents a model designed to provide formative assessment support in LMSs. Our model has pedagogical basis on Assessment Research studies and maps concepts and recommendations from this area onto Distance Education domain. A multi-agent architecture is presented as the basis of a technological solution defined for the proposed model. In addition, considerations about an initial validation of the model are presented.

Web services are an emerging Service-Oriented Architecture technology to integrate applications using open standards based on XML. Software Engineering tools integration is a promising area since companies adopt different software processes and need different tools on each activity. Software engineers could take advantage of software engineering tools available as web services and create their own workflow for integrating the required tools. In this paper, we propose the development of testing tools designed as web services and discuss the pros and cons of this idea. We developed a web service for structural testing of Java programs called JaBUTiService, which is based on the stand-alone tool JaBUTi. We also present an usage example of this service with the support of a desktop front-end and pre prepared scripts. A set of 62 classes of the library Apache-Commons-BeanUtils was used for this test and the results are discussed.

Fault-tolerant systems are expected to operate in a variety of devices ranging from standard PCs to embedded devices. In addition, the emergence of new software technologies has required these applications to meet the needs of heterogeneous software platforms. However, the existing approaches to build fault-tolerant systems are often targeted at a particular platform and software technology. The objective of this paper is to discuss the use of F l e x F T —a generic component-based framework for the construction of adaptive fault-tolerant systems that can integrate and reuse technologies and deploy them across heterogeneous devices. Furthermore, F l e x F T provides a standardized and interoperable interface for sensor observations by relying upon the “Sensor Web” paradigm established by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). We have implemented a Java prototype of our framework and evaluated the potential benefits by carrying out case studies and performance measurements. By implementing and deploying these case studies in standard PCs as well as in sensor nodes, we show that F l e x F T can cope with the problem of a wide degree of heterogeneity with minimal resource overheads.

Mobile cloud computing is one of the main ways to augment the resource-constrained mobile devices to run rich mobile applications through the offloading technique, which leverages resources and services from remote server in the cloud. However, an efficient and intelligent use of cloud resources is required due to changing environment conditions and application variability usage. In order to help address this issue we present CoSMOS—Context-Sensitive Model for Offloading System—a context-aware and self-adaptive offloading decision support model for mobile cloud computing systems, based on self-aware and self-expressive systems. It employs decision-taking estimation based on application’s time execution and energy consumption to decide efficiently when and which application components should be offloaded in order to improve system’s execution. Our experiments show that the model is capable of inferring appropriate decisions with acceptable performance in a range of environment conditions.

Este artigo apresenta fragmentos da experiencia e das contribuicoes do projeto “Paulo Freire Memoria e Presenca: preservacao e democratizacao do acesso ao patrimonio cultural brasileiro” para acoes envolvendo bibliotecas e arquivos, no que tange ao uso de softwares livres. Discorre sobre a metodologia do trabalho, bem como enumera os softwares utilizados nas atividades de digitalizacao, tratamento de textos, fotos, audios e videos, alem de apresentar as novas funcionalidades e customizacoes da plataforma de codigo aberto utilizada para disponibilizar ao publico todo o acervo. Por fim, apresenta alguns dos desafios encontrados e aponta as perspectivas para o futuro.O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar o movimento instituido pelos professores em formacao, no curso oferecido pelo grupo do UCA na Bahia, ao buscar respostas para questoes relacionadas as dimensoes tecnicas, teoricas e praticas para a insercao dos laptops na sala de aula. Para esse estudo, a partir de uma pesquisa exploratoria, priorizamos as discussoes dos professores no forum do Moodle, por ser uma interface que potencializa a colaboracao entre os interagentes e porque agrega, no mesmo recurso, os professores de todas as escolas, o que possibilita a elaboracao de uma visao de todo o contexto do PROUCA na Bahia.Este projeto tem como ideia central refletir como as multiplas possibilidades e conhecimentos embutidos nas padronagens dos tecidos africanos, suas conexoes com os aspectos historico-culturais e linguisticos podem ser incorporados em sala de aula e contribuir com a educacao. Vivencias compartilhadas sao registradas, descritas e analisadas. Entrelacando esses focos, busco interpretar e compreender os sentidos e os significados que esses alunos dao as experiencias vividas durante o projeto. Todos esses elementos se entrelacam e comunicam e nos comunica algo sobre nosso territorio, nossa cultura, nossa lingua, enfim, nossa historia.A falta de motivacao e a principal causa do desinteresse dos alunos, quase sempre acarretado pela metodologia utilizada nas aulas tradicionais. Neste trabalho procurou-se demonstrar que os jogos podem colaborar no processo de ensino e aprendizagem de forma diferenciada, dinâmica e atrativa, promovendo alem de prazer e divertimento, a construcao do conhecimento, ao conectar os diferentes aspectos relacionados ao processo de aprendizagem, como cognicao, afeicao, socializacao e criatividade, utilizando-se do domino e do jogo do mico, adaptados dos jogos tradicionais, para trabalhar conteudos de Quimica Orgânica.O artigo, aqui apresentado, tem como objetivo compartilhar um projeto que iniciou-se, em 2008, na turma de alfabetizacao da Escola Municipal Neil Fioravanti da cidade de Dourados (MS). O mesmo visou o combate da pratica do bullying e a sua metodologia oportunizou a interface das areas de conhecimento, a exploracao da literatura infantil, do jornal e das TICs (tecnologias da informacao e comunicacao). Objetivou tambem, integrar a comunidade escolar e colaborar no desenvolvimento do (Plano de Metas Compromisso Todos Pela Educacao). Em 2009, foi premiado pelo MEC atraves do Premio Professores do Brasil. Em 2010, tornou-se um Programa Antibullying. Atualmente, continua em vigor e alcancou ate outro municipio.Este artigo reporta a experiencia de construcao de um projeto de jogo em ambiente imersivo, envolvendo as areas de Artes Visuais, Engenharia, Direito Ambiental e Lingua Inglesa (LI). Esse prototipo usa ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem e a tecnologia OpenSim para criacao do design do jogo e das atividades em LI. Os resultados sugerem que a construcao das fases do jogo, bem como os desafios que envolvem as atividades em LI e os conhecimentos interdisciplinares exigem a formacao de uma equipe que seja capaz de articular pressupostos teorico-metodologicos sobre jogos e conhecimentos tecnologicos, para garantir o desenvolvimento dos principios de um bom jogo. Resultados dessa experiencia serao apresentados no evento.A Educacao a Distância (EaD) esta cada vez mais presente nas instituicoes de ensino, principalmente com a adocao dos Ambientes Virtuais de Aprendizagem (AVA). Paralelo a isso e notoria a evolucao da industria de dispositivos moveis, disponibilizando no mercado uma rica variedade de tablets e smartphones. Surge entao o m-Learning que promove o ensino e a aprendizagem com mobilidade permitindo que alunos e professores extrapolem as barreiras da sala de aula atraves do uso de dispositivos moveis. Neste contexto, este artigo apresenta uma aplicacao que acessa os AVA por meio de dispositivos moveis, o Question Mobile. O objetivo do Question Mobile e permitir que atividades avaliativas por meio desses aparelhos sejam integrados aos AVA que possuem atividades de questionarios.

The development of dependable context-aware applications represents a major challenge to software engineers of contemporary systems. In this context, this position paper proposes the definition of a Context-Aware Exception Handling Mechanism to be incorporated into the Mid Sensor Net, a middleware of multi-tier services for Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs) that provides a expressive and flexible mechanism to publish/subscribe events of interest, and reusable interfaces that employ web standard technologies to provide interoperability between services and applications.

The development of flexible, reusable and interoperable LMSs has increasingly attracted the attention of the e-learning community. Considering these issues, the TIDIA-Ae project has been proposing a component-based solution for LMSs development. This article presents a development case study according to the TIDIA-Aes component-based architecture, whose activity was the development of the Portfolio and Weblog tools. The main artifacts obtained in the development process, the solutions adopted for the open issues and the main learned lessons are presented.

The wildfires caused by human occupation is one of the factors that most contributes to deforestation of conservation areas, resulting in a number of issues for ecological systems. Premature fire detections lead to the elimination or reduction of the damage that will be caused by a fire incident. Wireless sensor networks have been shown to be a good alternative for environmental monitoring applications, as they can collect and send information in real time, such as humidity, wind, and temperature of various parts of the forest. Due to problems such as power limitation, communication failure, and loss of nodes, the network topology is constantly changing, requiring mechanisms to achieve self-organization and fault tolerance. This article proposes the development of a model and application in self-organizing and fault-tolerant wireless sensor networks for fire detection in conservation areas. To achieve self-organization and fault tolerance, we rely on encouraged local interactions between neighboring nodes that monitor the same region and the coordination of tasks, through a supervisor node, equipped with a framework for developing component-based fault-tolerant applications. For the analysis and validation of both model and application, it was simulated 60 events in the network of sensors in a real scenario using the simulator Sinalgo. The results were classified as True (partial or absolute) or False (partial or absolute). In all, 45% of consensus identified a possible fault in the application and in only 35% there was absolute consensus.

Este trabalho apresenta LabTecA, um jogo educacional que esta sendo desenvolvido com o intuito de proporcionar ao aluno/jogador vivencias em um laboratorio virtual de Quimica Analitica em 3D. O projeto visa promover experiencias ludicas de aprendizagem, por meio de um ambiente virtual onde o jogador pode explorar o uso dos objetos do laboratorio virtual (equipamentos, vidrarias, reagentes) para realizar experimentos virtuais que sao propostos ao longo do jogo. Dessa forma, o jogador tem a oportunidade de vivenciar praticas de laboratorio de quimica, muitas vezes inacessiveis, sobretudo no contexto da Educacao a Distância, considerando que grande parte dos estudantes possui dificuldades de acesso as instalacoes das universidades e mesmo dos polos de apoio presencial. Como resultado de todo processo de design e desenvolvimento de LabTecA, um prototipo da primeira fase do jogo foi desenvolvido e validado por uma professora especialista da area de Quimica Analitica.
