Abstract Information systems (IS) play an important role in successful execution of organizational decisions, and the ensuing tasks that rely on those decisions. Because decision making models show that cognitive load has a significant impact on how people use information systems, objective measurement of cognitive load becomes both relevant and important in IS research. In this paper, we manipulate task demand during a decision making task in four different ways. We then investigate how increasing task demand affects a users pupil data during interaction with a computerized decision aid. Our results suggest that pupillometry has the potential to serve as a reliable, objective, continuous and unobtrusive measure of task demand and that the adaptive decision making theory may serve as a suitable framework for studying user pupillary responses in the IS domain.

ABSTRACT The information quality (IQ) literature has investigated the influences of objective factors on the perceptions of IQ dimensions. We seek to contribute to this literature by taking a subjective approach. We investigate the effects of satisfaction and complexity on the perception of IQ dimensions. We find both main effects and interaction effects. The main line of reasoning builds on commodity theory as a psychological explanation of the effects of scarcity. Based on this finding, we suggest a feedback loop model, which integrates the research on IQ into the information systems (IS) success literature. We discuss the potential implications of these findings in relation to IS success research.

Singapore has one of the highest mobile device penetration rates in Asia, as well as one of the fastest aging populations in the region. Mobile users aged 45 and above grew up in an era when information and communication technologies were not as advanced and English language education was scarce. Considering these factors, this group is less likely to be conscious of mobile security. Our survey of 55 elderly participants suggested that most of them are generally unaware of security and privacy risks associated with the mobile device usage. Thus, we make recommendations for this user group with the aim of reducing cybercrime victimization using the Situational Crime Prevention Theory. Our findings underscore the need for regular ongoing cybercrime educational programs and the promotion of a culture of security among older digital immigrants.
