Insects found in birds' nests from Argentina. Cyanoliseus patagonus (Vieillot, 1818) [Aves: Psittacidae], with the description of Cyanolicimex patagonicus, gen. n., sp. n., and a key to the genera of Haematosiphoninae (Hemiptera: Cimicidae).

Osvaldo Di Iorio; Paola Turienzo; Juan Francisco Masello; Diego Leonardo Carpintero

The Burrowing Parrot, Cyanoliseus patagonus (Vieillot, 1817) [Aves: Psittacidae], is one of the most southern Neotropical parrots. They require sandstone, limestone, or earth cliffs where they excavate their colonial nest-burrows. Adult C. p. patagonus excavate their own nest-burrows, most of them about 1.5 m deep. Each burrow is occupied by a single pair that lay one clutch of two to five eggs per year, directly on the sand of the breeding chamber. The breeding birds abandon the place until the start of the next breeding attempt in the following year. Burrow nests from Río Negro province (Argentina) are inhabited by two ectoparasitic insects, the flea Hectopsylla narium (Siphonaptera: Pulicidae), and Cyanolicimex patagonicus, gen. n., sp. n. (Hemiptera: Cimicidae). The Rio Negro province is the southernmost known limit for Haematosiphoninae in the Western Hemisphere, and C. patagonicus is the third Haematosiphoninae with a Psittacidae bird as host. As the South American genera of Haematosiphoninae cannot be separated using the available key due to unsatisfactory characters, the proposition of new characters for the identification of the four South American genera, together with the corresponding modifications to the key, are presented.

Williamsocoris, a New Genus of Schizopteridae (Heteroptera) from Argentina

Diego Leonardo Carpintero; Pablo M. Dellapé

Abstract A new genus and species, Williamsocoris ornatus (Schizopteridae: Hypselosomatinae), is described from Argentina. This is the first record of the subfamily in South America. The particular structures of the rostrum of this new taxon are unique in the family.

Revision of the genus Melanolestes StÅl (Heteroptera: Reduviidae, Peiratinae)

María del Carmen Coscarón; Diego Leonardo Carpintero

Melanolestes is a Nearctic and Neotropical genus of predatory reduviid bugs. It is revised and a diagnosis is given. The species up to date includes: M. argentinus Berg, M. degener Walker, M. morio Erichson, M picicornis StAl, M. picinus StAl and M. picipes (Herrich-Schaeffer) and all are redescribed. Three new species, M. goiasensis, M. lugens and M. minutus, are described. A key is presented and the main taxonomic characters (head, pronotum, scutellum, male and female genitalia) are illustrated. Distribution maps and a table with measurements and ratios are included.

Los Heteroptera (Insecta: Hemiptera) edáficos del INTA Delta del Paraná (partido de Campana, Buenos Aires): Variación espacial y temporal del elenco de las especies en distintos usos de la tierra

Analía Soledad Nanni; Andrea L. Magnano; Diego Leonardo Carpintero

The Heteroptera (Insecta: Hemiptera) soil INTA Delta of Parana (Campana, Buenos Aires). Spatial and temporal variation of the cast of species in different land uses. A list of 32 species of Heteroptera captured with pitfall traps at INTA (Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia Agropecuaria) Delta del Parana (Partido de Campana, Buenos Aires) is presented in this paper. Two species are mentioned as a first record for the province: Fulvius bisbistillatus (Stal) (Miridae) and Pselliopus ornaticeps (Stal) (Reduviidae). Also an analysis of Spearman rank correlation (r) and correspondence analysis is made, to assess the spatial and temporal variation of Heteroptera communities of different selected land uses.

Primer registro del Calancate Común Aratinga a. acuticaudata (Aves: Psittacidae) como huésped nativo primario de Ornithocoris toledoi Pinto (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cimicidae)

Diego Leonardo Carpintero; Igor Berkunsky; Rosana Aramburú

First record of Blue-Crowned Parrot Aratinga a. acuticaudata (Aves: Psittacidae) as primary native host of Ornithocoris toledoi Pinto (Cimicidae: Hemiptera: Heteroptera). The primary natural host of cimicid bug Ornithocoris toledoi Pinto (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cimicidae) is presented as Blue- Crowned Parrot Aratinga a. acuticaudata (Aves: Psittacidae). Its presence in the Chaco province is also a new distributional record of this bug in Argentina. A brief discussion about the taxonomy is also given and some population parameters are compared with those of other bug species. Finally, we discuss possible infestation ways in the current state of knowledge, including other birds (Furnariidae) and bats (Chiroptera).

Sara I. Montemayor; Diego Leonardo Carpintero

In the present contribution a new genus and species is described and illustrated, Pterovianaida melchiori, from Peru. This is the first non‐fossil macropterous Vianaididae known and it is the first time this family is reported from Peru.

Western Hemisphere Lasiochilinae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) with comments on some extralimital species and some considerations on suprageneric relationships

Diego Leonardo Carpintero

Seven Western Hemisphere genera (six known and one new), and 39 species (27 known and 12 new) of Lasiochilinae are redefined based on known and new characters. These new characters are briefly discussed. Plochiocorini, a new tribe, is erected in the basis of two genera: Plochiocoris Champion and Dolichiella Reuter. Anaelia, a new genus of Lasiochilini, is also erected based on the species Lasiochilus mirificus Drake & Harris. Ten new species are described as follows: Dilasia carvalhoi, D. cuscoensis, D. crassicornis, D. gracilicornis, D. neotropicalis, D. similis, Eusolenophora divisoides, E. testaceoides, Lasiochilus colpoides, L. duckei, Lasiocolpus vivianai and L. maesi. Taxonomic position of most of the Old World species is discussed. A table with measurements and ratios is included, and distributional maps are provided. In addition, a key to the tribes and genera of world Lasiochilinae is given, and relationships between cimicoid families is briefly revised.
