Introducion: Aging occur declines structural and functional that can to affect physical independence. Objective: Verify the influence of weekly frequency of Strength Training (ST) on functional performance in older women. Methods: 21 older womenwere divided in two groups that trained in one (G1: n=11) or two times a week (G2: n=10). The ST applied was in format of circuit that consisted of three turns with interval of 30 seconds in between exercises and repetitions between eight and 10. Results: Results showed improvement over pre-training in all tests in both groups (p 0.05). Conclusion: ST is capable of promoting improvements in functional performance regardless of training frequency.

Introduction: Trunk extensor muscles strength is important for low back prevention pain. However, it is not established whether a non-specific training for this region is sufficient. Objective: Compare trunk muscle extensors strength of the sedentary subjects and resistance training practitioners (RT) who did not perform any specific exercises for this region. Methods: It was recruited 105 healthy subjects (61 men and 44 women) with age between 18 and 44 years who were divided into groups trained and sedentary. Experienced in RT trained squat and military press. The remaining subjects had no experience in RT. Results: There were differences in strength between trained and sedentary men (p = 0.002) and gender (p = 0.0003), there was no difference between women trained and sedentary (p≥0.05). Conclusion: RT non specific increase the strength of the lumbar region in men. However, it is not enough in the female public.

Introducao: Alguns indicadores de estresse cardiovascular fornecem importantes informacoes para monitorar o esforco durante a pratica de ER. Contudo, nao existe um consenso com relacao ao tipo de exercicio e intensidade de um mesmo grupo muscular. Objetivo: Analisar as respostas da frequencia cardiaca, pressao arterial e do duplo produto em diferentes intensidades de exercicio resistido uni e multiarticular. Materiais e Metodos: Foram recrutados, 11 universitarios normotensos, praticantes de treinamento resistido (22,2 ± 2,8 anos; 171,2 ± 9,4 cm; 68,0 ± 12,6 kg; 23,0 ± 2,4 kg/m2), que realizaram tres series com 60 e 80% de uma repeticao maxima nos exercicios de voador e supino horizontal ate a falha concentrica. A pressao arterial e a frequencia cardiaca (FC) foram obtidas: a) em repouso e b) imediatamente apos cada serie dos exercicios. Resultados: os resultados indicam que o tipo de exercicio nao influencia nas respostas cardiovasculares. Entretanto, com relacao a intensidade somente foi verificado diferenca estatistica para o exercicio voador na intensidade de 60% de 1-RM com maiores valores encontrados quando comparado a intensidade de 80%. Conclusoes: Os resultados do presente estudo indicam que o tipo de exercicio realizado (uni ou multiarticular) nao influencia nas respostas cardiovasculares agudas ao esforco em jovens normotensos. Contudo, com relacao a intensidade do exercicio foi observado apenas para o exercicio uniarticular voador um maior estresse cardiovascular. Fato este que pode ser considerado para prescricao de grupos especiais. Palavras-chave: treinamento de resistencia, Pressao arterial, Frequencia cardiaca.
