Proposal of an environmental management model for Nephrology services

Geni Burg; Djalma Dias da Silveira

Objective: This study aimed at proposing a new model of Environmental Management for Nephrology Services through a situational diagnosis made in three services. Methods: This work is an exploratory descriptive research that used quantitative methodology and multicase techniques. Three different instruments were used for data collection, and answered by nurses, managers, nursing technicians and cleaning servants, as well as patients with chronic renal insufficiency submitted to hemodialysis. Results: The detailed analysis of the processes and the application of the evaluation instruments showed that they are efficient tools in the identification of non-conformity factors, which enabled the elaboration of an environmental management proposal applicable to nephrology services. Conclusion: The implementation of the proposed system in the services brought several benefits such as reduction of residue and liquid effluents; preservation of natural resources, use of more environmentally correct materials and inputs; cost reduction as well as the preservation of human health and the environment. Objective: This study aimed at proposing a new model of Environmental Management for Nephrology Services through a situational diagnosis made in three services. A SAUDADE ECOLOGICAMENTE CORRETA:A EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL E OS PROBLEMAS AMBIENTAIS EM CEMITÉRIOS

Djalma Dias da Silveira; Salate Retamoso Palma

Rarely people think or imagine that cemeteries can cause great environmental impacts andharm to public health. The decomposition of organic matter creates a viscous liquid of agrayish/brownish color and an acrid and fetid odor called necroleachate. Therefore, cemeteriesare a depository for corpses which needs a right place to stay since their degradation can becomea source of contamination. In this monograph, we aimed to survey data on the environmentalproblems caused by building cemeteries as well evaluate the interrelationship of this subject withthe risks for public health in light of environmental education. By analyzing specialized literature,we verified that the process of body decomposition can be potentially responsible for affecting thequality of the soil and subterranean waters causing physical, chemical and biological alterationsbesides making the environment conducive to the spread of infectious diseases. Could not we dealwith death in an ecologically correct manner?

EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL, DESENVOLVENDO ATIVIDADES PARA MINIMIZAR O RUÍDO NA ESCOLA

Giane Margarete Scarpatto Lourenço; Djalma Dias da Silveira

A major problem faced by the population, is the lack of sanitation and care for water and soil, especially in rural areas, where there is no specific type of control over the issues of environmentalsanitation or when there is done so unsystematic, only appears to be triggered when a healthproblem in the community. Water pollution and soil increases every day due to residues of organicand inorganic materials, due to lack of sanitation and care of the man himself with hisenvironment, and also daily activities of rural workers that may be irreversible environment. Thisstudy aimed to relate human activities with environmental problems in the interior of Santo Angelo - RS, focusing on the pollution of soil and water. For this reason, participants are doingwork environment perception survey data on key factors of contamination in rural areas, througha photographic survey questionnaire and socio-environmental. From these data we can verify thequality of life in relation to issues of environmental sanitation and awareness of the population, allowing for discussion and promotion of environmental education, encouraging the formation ofa sense of citizenship and helping to promote sanitation in these areas, forming citizens able tocharge their rights to practice their duties to the preservation of natural resources, especiallywater and soil.

GERENCIAMENTO DE RESÍDUOS SÓLIDOS - A IMPORTÂNCIA DA EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL NO PROCESSO DE IMPLANTAÇÃO DA COLETA SELETIVA DE LIXO - O CASO DE IJUÍ/RS

Juliana Carla Persich; Djalma Dias da Silveira

This studys main objective is to investigate the importance of environmental education in theprocess of implementation of garbage collection in Ijui/RS. Additionally we sought to identify andassess whether there are specific programs of environmental education in garbage collection inthe municipality of Ijui; see the effective participation of the population in the process of garbagecollection, and even check what actions actually provide a successful garbage collection.Interviews were conducted with representatives of the Municipality, as the City Department ofEnvironment, Ministry of Works and Planning, and the company that provides garbage collectionin the municipality. A program of selective collection and conducted the population tends todevelop a new mindset on issues involving the economy and environmental preservation. Ijuisucceeded in establishing the system of selective collection, but there were problems in theprocess of driving, lack of political interest on environmental and bureaucratic obstacles that mayalso contribute to the lack of preparedness of the population through environmental education. The changes in the habits of the population to acquire the need to separate their waste is themost difficult because it requires effort and patience, so all the issues involving the selectivecollection must be well informed and taken seriously by everyone

EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL NO USO E DESCARTE DE PILHAS E BATERIAS

Zélio Rumpel Brum; Djalma Dias da Silveira

This study aimed to promote awareness of people to the fact of the necessity ofenvironmental care for the proper use and disposal of batteries. The first step was theawareness, that occurred by the survey data, which questions regarding batteries withsubsequent delivery of a booklet and lecture on law and harm caused by waste batteries. In a second step, we performed selective collection of batteries. The main results of thesurvey data indicated that 80% of answers rarely discard batteries, but when it does, usethe trash for disposal. We also observed that 46% of respondents said they did not knowof the problems that contamination by products such as mercury, copper and lead cancause to human health. Answers understand that the responsibility of the correctdestination of these materials is the population itself, ignoring the law that indicatesmanufacturing companies as the main responsible for the collection. This work is expectedto arouse the civility, sensitivity, and adoption of new habits on the planet where we live.

Biomass Combustion Wastes Utilization in Natural Gas Pipeline Construction

Djalma Dias da Silveira; Renato Paula de Andrade; Airton Luís Heck

Pipeline construction in rock soils demands an extreme care, under a constructive point-of-view, specially regarding a possible damage to the pipeline coating. Irregular pieces of rock (result of rock blasting) can contribute to this damage. Actual methodologies can be resumed in the utilization of selected soil (extracted from natural areas) as “padding” layer and also to cover the pipeline. Another methodology is mechanical protection utilization (special sleeves and wood grids). This paper proposes the utilization of biomass wastes after burning in Biomass Fire Power Plants as “padding” and “covering” agent, in substitution to the soil extracted from natural areas. The waste studied is produced after the burning of rice husk wastes that are burned in power plants in operation at the South Region of Brazil. Laboratory analyses were conducted and the results are presented and discussed, in terms of pipeline integrity and soil quality effects. Main results of this work are related to the possibility of cost reduction by the utilization of waste as the “padding” and “covering” agents in pipeline construction, as well as the selected soil extraction areas conservation, that can be used to another economical or environmental activity. Another result can be the reducing of mechanical protection elements used during the construction step. Finally, this paper contributes to the development of new initiatives related to alternative materials using in pipeline construction routines, based on cost reduction × environmental sustainability binomial, that can result in more sustainable gas pipeline construction projects.Copyright
