Preoperative parathyroid localization: correlating false-negative technetium 99m sestamibi scans with parathyroid disease.

Richard W. Westreich; Margaret S. Brandwein; Jeffrey I. Mechanick; Donald Bergman; Mark L. Urken

Objective/Hypothesis The recent trend toward minimally invasive directed parathyroid surgery has increased the surgeons reliance on preoperative parathyroid localization. Technetium Tc 99m sestamibi scanning is generally viewed as the gold standard for preoperative localization, with reported sensitivities of 75% to 100% and specificities of 75% to 90%. 1–3 However, in each reported series there exists a group of patients in whom preoperative localization is either equivocal or negative.

Preoperative parathyroid adenoma localization by the technetium‐thallium subtraction scan

Hugh F. Biller; Arnold M. Strashun; Stanley J. Goldsmith; Donald Bergman

The technetium‐thallium subtraction scintigram was utilized preoperatively in 14 consecutive patients explored for primary hyperparathyroidism. The scintigram accurately identified the site of a parathyroid adenoma in 12 of 13 patients.

Parathyroid adenoma autoinfarction: a report of a case.

Satish Govindaraj; Jared Wasserman; Rod Rezaee; Adam Pearl; Donald Bergman; Beverly Y. Wang; Mark L. Urken

Parathyroid adenoma autoinfarction, although uncommon, is an entity that has been previously reported in the literature; however, the influence of intraoperative parathyroid hormone (PTH) monitoring on therapeutic management has not been reported.

Management of recurrent and persistent metastatic lymph nodes in well-differentiated thyroid cancer: A multifactorial decision-making guide for the thyroid cancer care collaborative: Recurrent and Persistent Metastatic Lymph Nodes in Well-Differentiated Thyroid Cancer

Well‐differentiated thyroid cancer (WDTC) recurs in up to 30% of patients. Guidelines from the American Thyroid Association (ATA) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) provide valuable parameters for the management of recurrent disease, but fail to guide the clinician as to the multitude of factors that should be taken into account. The Thyroid Cancer Care Collaborative (TCCC) is a web‐based repository of a patients clinical information. Ten clinical decision‐making modules (CDMMs) process this information and display individualized treatment recommendations.
