Rheological properties and quality stability of sprayed cigarette holder adhesive during high-speed cigarette making process

Mathematical models for rheological characteristics of a sprayed cigarette holder adhesive were established in order to evaluate the effects of apparent viscosity on the quality stability of the adhesive at different speeds of high-speed cigarette making machines. Quantitative analyses of the flow stability of the adhesive samples at different rotating speeds were made by statistical analysis. Combining with the adaptability to the cigarette making machines, the quality stability of the adhesives in the process of cigarette production was evaluated. The following conclusions were obtained:1) The apparent viscosity and shear speed of the adhesive were in accordance with a non-Newtonian power law. 2) The sprayed adhesives showed a consistent variation in rheological coefficient. In the examined range, the non-Newtonian indices of the adhesive samples from different manufacturers behaved differently, indicating the apparent viscosity had a different sensitivity to the shear speed, reflecting differences in viscosity quality. 3) With the increasing speed, the relationship between the apparent viscosity and the shear speed of the sprayed adhesives was stable, and the fluctuation of the non-Newton index was minimal. There was a significant negative correlation between the variances of parameters of the fitting equation and the non-Newton index, and it always conformed to the mathematical model for rheological properties of the sprayed adhesive for high-speed cigarette making machine.

Effects of Combustion Improver Content and Grammage of Cigarette Paper on Temperature Distribution in Cigarette Burning Cone

In order to study the influence of combustion improver(potassium citrate) content in cigarette paper on cigarette burning state, the cigarette samples with cigarette paper of different grammages and containing different rates of combustion improver were prepared. The temperature in cigarette was detected with fine-thermocouples. By revising Rosin-Rammler(R-R) particle size distribution model, a method for characterizing temperature distribution in cigarette burning cone was developed, where, burning cone volume V0, characteristic temperature Ts, and distribution parameter N were taken as characteristic variables. The effects of combustion improver content and grammage of cigarette paper on temperature distribution characteristics in cigarette during static burning, puffing, and smouldering stages were investigated. The results showed that:With the increase of combustion improver content and grammage of cigarette paper, 1) The highest temperature in burning cone decreased during the whole process of cigarette smoking. 2) The volume of burning cone increased in all of the three burning stages, and reached its maximum value at the end of a puffing. 3) The characteristic temperature Ts of burning cone raised gradually and the range of temperature distribution decreased during static burning; however during puffing, Ts raised and then dropped.
