Robustness of Commissioned Coordinated q - V Controller for Multimachine Power Plant

This paper presents commissioning details of a coordinated reactive power-voltage controller (CQVC) installed in a multimachine steam power plant (SPP). The CQVC regulates reactive power and voltage of a 1992MVA multimachine SPP. After briefly introducing basic control principles and relevant details about the CQVCs implementation, CQVC parameterization and tuning are thoroughly discussed. Once commissioned,the CQVC performance under various operating conditions is assessed. It is shown that the CQVC successfully maintains an HV busbar voltage and allocates reactive power to participating generators in accordance to their capability. Numerous CQVC responses recorded at the site are presented to demonstrate controllers performance under normal and extreme plant and network operating conditions.

Intra-plant reactive power-voltage control: Practices, drawbacks and challenges

The paper discusses reactive power-voltage (Q-V) control in a multi-machine steam power plant (SPP). After briefly introducing some of the basic characteristics of synchronous generators voltage control through automatic voltage regulators, the practices of widely applied manual voltage references setting for Q-V control in SPP is illustrated through several examples of SPP response recorded at site. Further the case studies were developed with the emphasis on the drawbacks of manual intra-plant Q-V control by building a mathematical model of realistic SPP in Matlab-Simulink. Relying on noticed drawbacks the paper highlights the requirements for enhancing SPP reactive power response and voltage support to the power system by coordinated Q-V control at power plant level. Finally, the paper illustrates the achieved performances of coordinated Q-V controller in real SPP.

DEFINISANJE USLOVA ZA RAD UREĐAJA ZA GRUPNU REGULACIJU POBUDE I REAKTIVNIH SNAGA (GRPRS) U SISTEMU AUTOMATSKOG UPRAVLJANJA NAPONIMA U MREŽI

U radu se razmatra mogucnost direknog ukljucenja uređaja za grupnu regulaciju pobude i reaktivnih snaga u automatizovani sistem upravljanja naponima u elektroenergetskom sistemu. Grupni regulator pobude i reaktivnih snaga (GRPRS) predstavlja sistem kojim se vrsi automatsko upravljanje reaktivnim režimom elektrane i raspodela reaktivnog opterecenja među generatorima paralelno spregnutim preko blok transformatora i ukljucenim u grupni rad. Realizacijom sistema za grupnu regulaciju reaktivne snage postiže se ravnomerna raspodela reaktivnog opterecenja agregata koji ucestvuju u grupnoj regulaciji, a prema mogucnostima koje definisu pogonske karte pojedinih agregata. Grupnu regulaciju agregata u okviru elektrane potrebno je realizovati kako bi se uravnotežila eksploatacija agregata i kako bi se obezbedilo da se agregati u grupnoj regulaciji ravnomerno odazivaju na poremecaje u elektroenergetskom sistemu, kako bi se obezbedio rad agregata unutar pogonskog dijagrama pri razlicitim radnim uslovima u mreži (uslovi izuzetno niskih i izuzetno visokih napona) kao i radi adekvatnog definisanja naponsko-reaktivne karakteristike u tacki prikljucenja elektane na prenosnu mrežu. Sa stanovista elektroenergetskog sistema implementacija GRPRS omogucava: i ) prakticnu realizaciju sekundarne regulacije napona u sistemu, ii ) maksimalno iskoriscenje raspoložive reaktivne rezerve u sistemu sto doprinosi udaljavanju od granice naponske stabilnosti sistema, iii ) ocenu doprinosa svakog generatora u pružanju pomocne usluge regulacije napona. GRPRS ima potpuni uvid u reaktivnu i naponsku rezervu svakog generatora, prati stanje u mreži kroz napon na sabirnicama tako da se može koristiti da u realnom vremenu dostavlja operatoru sistema cenu i tarifnu zonu proizvedene reaktivne energije. U toku dve godine prakticne upotrebe skupljena su iskustva u podesenju referentnog napona i statizma sabirnica na dnevnom, mesecnom i sezonskom nivou. Na kraju uređaj GRPRS se osvetljava sa aspekta upotrebe kao alatke za realizaciju sekundarne regulacije napona. U celom sistemu sekundarne regulacije napona, najskuplji i tehnicki vrlo zahtevan korak je kako zahtevane nivoe reaktivne/snage/napona „dostaviti“ generatoru. GRPRS predstavlja resenje koje ne iziskuje nikakve promene na pobudnim sistemima i u stanju je da održava napon cvorne tacke u sistemu, kontinualno u vremenu, a prema zahtevu viseg nivo upravljanja. Na kraju rada je razmatrana mogucnost primene nekoliko kordinisanih GRPRS uređaja.

Joint excitation and reactive power control in thermal power plant

The coordinated voltage and reactive power controller, designed for the thermal power plant, is presented in the paper. A brief explanation of the need for such device is given and justification for commissioning of such equipment is outlined. After short description of the theoretical background of the proposed control design, the achieved features of the commissioned equipment are fully given. Achieved performances are illustrated by recorded reactive power and bus voltage responses after commissioning of the described equipment into the largest thermal power plant in Serbia. As it can be seen in presented records, all design targets are met.

Rezultati ispitivanja sistema turbinske regulacije agregata A1 u HE „Zvornik“, koji su prikazani u radu, omogucavaju uvid u stanje i podesenje navedenog sistema kao i analizu odziva ovog agregata u primarnoj regulaciji ucestanosti u elektroenergetskom sistemu Srbije. Neposrednom primenom važecih standarda i regulativa iz ove oblasti izvrsena je verifikacija postavljenih vrednosti parametara. Navedeni rezultati ispitivanja mogu poslužiti kao podloga za formiranje matematickog modela turbinskog regulatora i agregata u celini kao elementa elektroenergetskog sistema.
