The objective of this research was to evaluate the forage production and stocking rate (SR) of four Coastcross (Cynodon dactylon L. Pers.) pastures overseeded with ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. cv. Common); ryegrass plus white clover (Trifolium repens L., cv. Yi) over bermudagrass; ryegrass plus white clover and ryegrass. The experiment was carried out from May 15 to October 24, 2006, in five grazing periods. Holstein cows receiving 3.5 kg/daily complementary concentrate feed were used in the evaluation. In the pre and post grazing periods, the forage mass, botanical and structural pasture composition and the stocking rate were assessed. A randomized complete design was used, with four treatments (pastures) and two replications (paddocks), in five grazing cycles. No differences in herbage mass and stocking rate averages were detected among pastures. The ryegrass pastures had larger ryegrass leaf blade herbage mass production. The overseeded pastures had larger forage production. Overseeding with ryegrass and white clover on Coastcross extend the use period of annual grass and increase forage production.

This research aimed at evaluating the nutritive value by determining the organic matter (OM), in vitro OM digestibility (IVOMD), total digestibility nutrient (TDN), in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of four pasture-based system grazed by Holstein cows. The treatments were sod seeding of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorium Lam. cv. Common) over coastcross (Cynodon dactylon L. Pers.,); sod seeding of ryegrass plus white clover (Trifolium repens L., cv. Yi) over coastcross ryegrass plus white clover or ryegrass. From May 15th to October 24th, 2006, in five grazing periods, the pregraze herbage mass (PM), botanical and structural compositions and stocking rate (SR) were evaluated. Hand-plucked samples were collected to analyze the nutritive value. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four treatments (pastures) and two replications (paddocks). Differences in PM and SR averages were not detected among treatments. Better results of nutritive value were associated of ryegrass leaf lamina biomass in all pastures. Small differences on nutritive value were observed on sod seeding coastcross systems compared to ryegrass plus white clover or ryegrass pastures. The mean values of OM, IVOMD, TDN, IVDMD, CP and NDF of the pastures were 89.52; 69.50; 60.95; 70.96; 23.03 and 51.87%, respectively.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the chemical composition of two pasture-based systems having as common components the elephantgrass, ryegrass and spontaneous growth species, in one system the white clover and, in another system, the forage peanut. Four paddocks, each one with 0.25ha, were used in the evaluation. Holstein cows were used in the evaluation. The experimentalxa0design was completely randomized, with two treatments (pasture-based systems), two replications (paddocks). Toxa0analyzexa0the crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), hand-plucked samples were collected. Composition of forage systems changes according to its legumes compounds. Forage peanut system allowed a greater stocking rate in hot season. The mean values (pregraze and postgraze) of CP, NDF and ADF, were 18.76; 71.46 and 34.87% to the pasture-based system with white clover and 19.31; 71.19 and 35.40% to the system with forage peanut, respectively. Similar results were observed for the pasture systems.
