Pensando o cuidado na relação dialética entre sujeitos sociais

The objective of this essay is to offer theoretical data to the understanding of care, oriented by an ethic in which interaction among the constitutive dimensions of the social subjects is put into effect. A review of the historical construction of care and its medication appraising and its influence in the training and in professional practices is done. It emphazises current meaning of care and the need for building a healthcare political project that should not only respond to the available services increasing and to technical actions solution but also, sensitively listen to the needs by taking into account singularities and the formation of critical-reflexive subjects able to promote changes and modify the reality in which they live in.Ensaio que busca oferecer subsidios teoricos para a compreensao do cuidado em saude, valorizando-se a interacao entre as dimensoes constitutivas de sujeitos coletivos. Faz-se o resgate da construcao historica do cuidado, discutindo sua medicalizacao e influencia desta na formacao e nas praticas profissionais. Enfatiza-se a contribuicao de estudos da atualidade na redefinicao do cuidar com enfase na indissociabilidade entre as dimensoes expressiva e instrumental. Curva da altura uterina por idade gestacional em gestantes de baixo risco

PURPOSE: to build a curve of fundal height according to gestational age among low-risk pregnant women and to compare it with the official standards used in Brazil. METHODS: a prospective observational study was carried out. A sample of 227 low-risk pregnant women with gestational age from 13 to 39 weeks was followed-up in the prenatal care sector of two public health services from Joao Pessoa, PB. Women with a known gestational age, a single live fetus, without malformation, with no known maternal-fetal pathological condition that could possibly affect fetal growth, with a normal body weight, and non-smokers were included in the study. Their fundal height was measured in a standard way, after a previous ultrasound done to confirm the gestational age. The same investigator performed 1206 measurements and each woman had a mean of 5.3 measurements. Statistical tests were performed with a significance level of 5%. Tables and graphs of fundal height were built according to the gestational age with the 10th, 50th and 90th percentiles. RESULTS: the values of percentiles 10, 50 and 90 of fundal height in each gestational age allowed the construction of a pattern curve of fundal height by gestational age among low-risk pregnant women. A clear visual difference was observed between this new and the official fundal height curve. Statistical analyses showed significant differences between them from the 19th week on. CONCLUSION: the results suggest different normal fundal height and fetal growth patterns among low-risk pregnant women on prenatal assistance compared to the used standard curve, thus with different performances when used for diagnosing fetal growth deviations. Future studies should validate the current fundal height curve by gestational age in order to possibly use it as a reference pattern.

Política de planejamento familiar em João Pessoa - PB: análise das contradições existentes entre o discurso oficial e a prática

O presente estudo teve c o mo objetivo analisar as contradicoes existe ntes entreodiscurso oficial e a praticaem planejamento familiar em servicos publicos de saude de Joao Pessoa - PB, tendo como referencia o Programa de Assistencia In tegral a Saude da Mulher (PAISM). A ref erida politica f oi analisada nos seus pressupostos e na sua pratica, a partir do discurso de prof issionais e de mulheres clientes vincul ados ao Programa. Concluiu-se que, a politica de pl anejamento familiar em Joao Pessoa restringe-se ao âmbito das intencoes e o que se concretiza e uma pratica utilitarista, negando a regulacao da fecundidade enquanto direito de cidadania.

O planejamento familiar no Brasil no contexto das políticas públicas de saúde: determinantes históricos

This study searches historical records for the formulation and implementation of public health policies in Brazil, focusing on those referent to family planning. Initial conclusions show that the policies were geared toward international controlling interests. Family planning today, though officially recognized as an inalienable right of every citizen, still reflects the contradictory political, economic and ideological interests of the ruling power.

Atuação de enfermeiras no campo da regulação da fecundidade em um serviço público de saúde

This article is based on a doctoral dissertation that investigated the behavior of nurses concerning womens health in a public health care institution. It presents an experience in this practice regarding the actions of fertility regulation. The empirical data were obtained through reflection workshops and they were analyzed according to the discourse analysis technique and the gender theoretical approach. The analysis showed that in their practice, nurses value womens sexual and reproductive experiences, however, the institutional power, including here medical power, restrain their participation in the development of the autonomy and reproductive freedom of women.This article is based on a doctoral dissertation that investigated the behavior of nurses concerning womens health in a public health care institution.
