Assessing the Role of Strategic Choice on Organizational Performance by Jacquemin–Berry Entropy Index

This paper investigates effects of strategic choice on organizational performance for Romanian family-owned Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs). Using adapted Jacquemin–Berry entropy index for both product and international diversification and using a regression model, our study discusses family involvement as a moderating factor for organizational performance assessment. We discovered that there are multiple interactions between strategic choice and organizational performance while family involvement fails to have a significant role in moderating these interactions.

Relationship between Entropy, Corporate Entrepreneurship and Organizational Capabilities in Romanian Medium Sized Enterprises

This paper analyses the relations between entropy, organizational capabilities and corporate entrepreneurship. The results indicate strong links between strategy and corporate entrepreneurship, moderated by the organizational capabilities. We find that companies with strong organizational capabilities, using a systematic strategic approach, widely use corporate entrepreneurship as an instrument to fulfil their objectives. Our study contributes to the limited amount of empirical research on entropy in an organization setting by highlighting the boundary conditions of the impact by examining the moderating effect of firms’ organizational capabilities and also to the development of Econophysics as a fast growing area of interdisciplinary sciences.

Knowledge Tools in SMEs: A Romanian Overview

Abstract For knowledge management, just like for any other science, methods and techniques used in various knowledge processes are essential. However, despite an abundant literature dedicated to knowledge management, knowledge tools are still a poor charted area. Contributions in this area has several specialists: Kazi, in terms of systematization of knowldege tools, Samii in designing new KM tools, Meir Russ or Swartz in integrating KM tools with organizational and strategy setting. This paper presents the results of an empirical study on Romanian companies, most of them SMEs, aimed to provide an overview on knowledge tools in terms of the reasons to implement them, of the advantages and problems encountered during their use or the knowledge activities they are most suitable for. This is one of the first studies in Romania and provides some useful insights on one of the most dynamic but least represented parts of knowledge management.
