rather with particular ways of life. This, too, is an excellent essay which reminded me of the rationality debate in anthropology in the 1970s between Peter Winch and Ernest Gellner over the infamous Nuer conundrum ‘twins are birds’. This link to anthropology marks my only regret about this volume, namely the absence of an anthropological perspective. Anthropologists have written extensively on aspects of fundamentalism and secularism in different parts of the world and it is a shame that such a perspective is not represented here.
