Abstract Better bibliographic control of full-text titles in aggregated databases is desperately needed. Martin conducted a survey to gather data on the range of approaches to providing access to these electronic titles. The results indicated staffing levels are inadequate for this task; technical services staff are universally struggling to find satisfactory solutions. Martin provided examples of collaborative efforts that promote shared records for electronic resources.

functions. The authors present factors to consider when deciding on outsourcing versus insourcing and the implications, benefits, and challenges of these decisions. Chapter 6 illustrates a successful use of outsourcing, the development of a library’s presence on the Internet, and chapter 7 illustrates another, the development of a digital collection. To aid in answering the important question of how libraries determine what option works best for a particular task, the authors provide worksheets for comparing costs and for considering staffing alternatives strategically. The focus of the book’s conclusion, broadening the definition of bstaffQ in a virtual world, sums up the authors’ main ideas: moving to competency-based job descriptions and utilizing strategically selected contracted services can create a successful mix of staffing solutions to meet the needs of today’s libraries. The numerous checklists and figures included will be extremely useful as starting points for local discussions of staffing. The four-page index assists in locating topics and items in the bibliographies. Like other volumes in the series, this eight-by-eleven-inch, softcover volume has an attractive glossy cover. Library managers struggling with decisions on how to implement new services with existing staff and library school students seeking exposure to the dynamics of staffing a modern library will benefit from the discussions found in this wellprepared work.

ABSTRACT Meetings can be great opportunities to create the synergy that leads to better productivity and a more satisfying work experience. Leaders can create a “POP-Purpose, Outcome, and Plan” to uncover specific goals and identify the best methods to achieve them. Agendas should be carefully formatted with the desirable result in mind. Adding time specifications, assigning names to topics, and providing a layout conducive to resulting action assists both leaders and meeting participants. Facilitation techniques assure active participation by everyone and help move the discussion toward a productive outcome.
