robust bibliography also enhances the bookTs value as a reference tool on CCD. Somewhat disappointing is the limited attention given to the role of the vendor and the impact vendors and publishers can have onCCDprograms, especially in the case of electronic database consortia. The chapter on assessment and evaluation is especially well prepared and valuable. Long considered a vital component of prudent collection management, assessment of collection development enterprises is valued and often required by funding agencies and accreditation boards. The authors provide a detailed discussion of the latest approaches to assessment and evaluation, including but not limited to the balanced scorecard approach adapted from the business community. While much of the advice presented in this book recalls common management principles, the authors do a good job of demonstrating how to apply these basic principles to the specific aspects associated with CCD. When all is considered, Collaborative Collection Development is a handy and thoughtful source of ideas and information.

Not worried about the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act)? Never heard of Pat Schroeder? Think copyright issues are just for the circulation staff and copy service folks? Big mistake. You should be worried— plenty worried—about how the law and technology are interacting to affect almost every aspect of your daily business as librarians, teachers, and authors of everything from journal articles to Websites. Gretchen Hoffmann, librarian turned lawyer, is worried. She wants not only to bring you up to date on the most recent developments in cyberspace intellectual property law but also to scare you into becoming a copyright activist in the bargain. She does a creditable job of both in Copyright in Cyberspace: Questions and Answers for Librarians. But first a comment about format. The title of the book would lead one to believe that it will be a kind of copyright FAQ for librarians (similar, in fact, to the titles by Bruwelheide or Crews) at a very nuts-and-bolts level. 1
