Real-time evaluation of optical nonlinear effects on 112Gbps PM-QPSK signal in dispersion managed links

Daisaku Ogasahara; Manabu Arikawa; Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

We demonstrate the impact of nonlinear effects on dispersion managed links with a FPGA-based 112Gbps real-time receiver. We clarify that PM-RZ-QPSK provides superior robustness, whereas PM-NRZ-QPSK offers better total performance resulting from higher OSNR sensitivity.

Crosstalk reduction using bidirectional signal assignment over square lattice structure 16-core fiber for gradual upgrade of SSMF-based lines

Manabu Arikawa; Toshiharu Ito; Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

We demonstrate crosstalk reduction using bidirectional signal assignment on WDM transmission of 256 Gb/s PM-16QAM over square lattice structure 16-core fiber. Mixed SSMF and MCF transmission with 6 spans of MCF is possible with Q crosstalk penalty below 0.5 dB.

We evaluated experimentally 2, 8, 32 state 32Gbaud TCM-QPSK and TCM-16QAM. TCM offers finer configuration for flexible transponders increasing SE, on 1.1dB wider ranges. TCM may also be used with HD-FEC in lower power transceivers.

Long Haul transmission of four-dimensional 64SP-12QAM signal based on 16QAM constellation for longer distance at same spectral efficiency as PM-8QAM

Tatsuya Nakamura; Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Hidemi Noguchi; Wakako Maeda; Junichi Abe; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

We propose a new 4D coded modulation format, 64SP-12QAM, with same SE as PM-8QAM and straightforwardly-switchable with PM-16QAM. We experimentally demonstrated over 0.2 dB better sensitivity for 64SP-12QAM compared to PM-8QAM, enabling a transmission reach extension to 6,000 km at 6b/s/Hz.

Comparison of 100Gb/s transmission performances between RZ-DQPSK and polarization multiplexed NRZ/RZ-DPSK with automatic polarization de-multiplexer

Toshiharu Ito; Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Satomi Shioiri; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

Long-term transmission performances of polarization multiplexed 2x50 Gb/s NRZ/RZ-DPSK signals, denoting good transmission performances but with larger PMD-induced BER fluctuations compared with 100 Gb/s RZ-DQPSK, are successfully observed by constructing an automatic polarization de-multiplexer.

Hardware-efficient multi-redundancy superposed trellis coded modulation on 16QAM constellation

Tatsuya Nakamura; Hidemi Noguchi; Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Wakako Maeda; Junichi Abe; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

We propose multi-redundancy optical coded modulation using superposed trellis. We experimentally prove that our scheme enables fine adaptive SE control and high coding gain of 7.1dB for 3-bit redundant 16QAM with quarterly reduced circuit complexity.

Mitigation of intra-channel nonlinear distortions based on PAPR reduction with CD pre-compensation in real-time 50Gbps PM-QPSK transmission

Shinsuke Fujisawa; Daisaku Ogasahara; Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Toshiharu Ito; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

We verified the correlation between PAPR and intrachannel nonlinear distortions with 50.7Gbps PM-QPSK signal over 1,310km dispersion non-managed transmission. Experimental results with 50% CD pre-compensation exhibited minimal PAPR and improved Q factor.

Crosstalk Reduction With Bidirectional Signal Assignment on Square Lattice Structure 16-Core Fiber Over WDM Transmission for Gradual Upgrade of SMF-Based Lines

Manabu Arikawa; Toshiharu Ito; Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

C-band and L-band wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission performance was improved by using bidirectional signal assignment (BSA) to reduce crosstalk (XT) in square lattice structure 16-core fiber. Transmission of 16 WDM channels with 256-Gb/s polarization multiplexed-16 quadrature amplitude modulation signals on a 50-GHz grid with a net spectral efficiency of 4 b/s/Hz over 55-km of 16-core fiber spans was achieved. Use of BSA to reduce XT extended the transmission distance to 880 km in both types of transmission. Furthermore, transmission was achieved over eight mixed spans consisting of 16-core fiber and conventional single-mode fiber (SMF), demonstrating the possibility of gradually upgrading standard SMF-based lines to multicore fiber-based lines. With BSA, six 16-core fiber spans can be acceptable if the Q penalty from XT is below 0.5 dB.

Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Satomi Shioiri; Toshiharu Ito; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

We propose and verify experimentally a method of accurately setting the timing of phase modulation over temporal ranges wider than 1 symbol period for DQPSK transmitters, allowing Q to be optimized within 0.1 dB.

Demonstration of the improvement of transmission distance using multiple state trellis coded optical modulation

Emmanuel Le Taillandier de Gabory; Tatsuya Nakamura; Hidemi Noguchi; Wakako Maeda; S. Fujita; Junichi Abe; Kiyoshi Fukuchi

We demonstrated experimentally the improvement of the transmission distance by 27% of 150Gb/s signal at 3b/s/Hz with a novel TCM format, 8-state 12QAM TCM, compared to PM-8QAM. We also demonstrated improvement of the transmission distance for multiple state TCM using nonlinear compensation, ranging from 14% to 26%, while similar improvement was below 11% for PM signals.
