Objective: to identify the defining characteristics and related factors of Gestational Hypertensive Syndromes. Method: longitudinal retrospective study performed at a high-risk prenatal health center in a city in the west of Santa Catarina in 2016. The inclusion criteria were singleton pregnancy that did not result in miscarriage of intrauterine fetal death, date of last menstrual period between January and December 2015 and diagnosis of Gestational Hypertensive Syndrome. SPSS software, version 20.0 was used in data analysis. Results: 90 medical records were analyzed, and the defining characteristics of the diagnoses were revealed by high blood pressure and the presence of proteinuria. The related factors were maternal age, weight gain, body mass index, history of hypertensive diseases, number of prenatal consultations and use of antihypertensive medication. Conclusion: the characteristics that more accurately predict the occurrence of the diagnosis investigated and the reduction of the severe forms of the disease were identified.

Objective: to analyze admissions for primary care sensitive conditions among pregnant women, and the associated factors, based on the process of prenatal care, in a city of the center-west of the Brazilian State of Paraná (Brazil). Method: this is an inquiry into hospital morbidity undertaken with a sample of 86 pregnant women admitted to hospitals serving the Unified Health System. Results: the percentage of admissions was 70.97% (n=59), with emphasis placed on admissions specifically during the period of pregnancy (51.17%), among which, admissions due to infections in the genitourinary tract were the most frequent. The following were associated with the risk of admission due to a sensitive condition: incomplete records in the woman’s ‘pregnancy card’ (cartão da gestante), delayed initiation of prenatal care (after the second trimester), insufficient number of consultations and insufficient care during the consultation. Conclusion: the results suggest that a minimumlevel of care for these pregnant women would reduce the risk of unnecessary admission, evidencing that the quality of care provided during the prenatal period in this region is inadequate. DESCRIPTORS: Pregnant women. Hospitalization. Prenatal care. Primary health care. Health evaluation. This was an exploratory descriptive study with a qualitative approach that aimed to understand the perception of multiparous women about family and their strategies to manage their everyday lives in an inland city of the state of Paraná. The following categories were identified. Family connection to last a lifetime; a new member in the family, again, and family life and the strategies to manage everyday life. It was possible to identify the importance of family in the lives of these women as the primary source of support and care.
