Solar energy: Topographical asset for Pakistan

Pervez Hameed Shaikh; Faheemullah Shaikh; Mushtaq Mirani

The primary energy supply of Pakistan in the financial year 2009–10 was 63.088 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE). Globally, renewable energies generation is around (19%) [1]. Pakistan has a yearly average solar energy shining potential of about 19 Mega Joules per square meter, with 7.6 hours per day with an average solar radiation of 5–7 kW h/(m2 day). An alarming stage for the government to take serious steps to tackle energy demand, in vision to inclining oil markets, depletion of gas reserves, huge electricity demand and supply gap, lessening offorest reserves, calamity (floods, heavy rainfalls, earth quakes, melting of glaciers etc.), Kyoto bindings etc. All these factors are indicating for the transition towards renewable energy technologies.

Multi Criteria Optimization Algorithm for Economic Dispatch Complications for Sustainable Interconnected Power System

Faheemullah Shaikh; Pervez Hameed Shaikh; Mushtaq Mirani; Mohammad Aslam Uqaili

Power system engineers are facing difficulty in economic operation of the large interconnected power system. Economic dispatch of large interconnected power system is complex, constrained and nonlinear problem which require rigorous and complex calculations before taking any decision apropos to power dispatch. Evolutionary algorithms have been nowadays frequently used for optimum performance of nonlinear and complex systems. This paper proposed to develop an evolutionary algorithm which considers all constraints of power dispatch for economic operation of the power system.

Abstract The building sector consumes approximately one-third of global primary energy. The energy and environmental performance of buildings for all their energy uses have to be revisited. Building energy retrofitting provides substantial opportunities to reduce the level of building energy consumption, saves cost, improves comfort level, and mitigates greenhouse gas emissions. Building retrofitting is a form of technical intrusion in the energy system of a building to effectively utilize its energy. The aim of the chapter is to identify the optimal cost-effective energy-retrofitting strategy. A holistic retrofitting scenario has been considered that includes reduced energy consumption, cost savings, capital investments, emissions, technology behavioral change, and comfort indexing, along with sustainability concerns involving geometry and envelope construction. However, this study primarily focused on energy systems within the building envelope. In addition, various uncertainty parameters and risk factors have been considered. Multifaceted optimal retrofitting strategies based on the optimized decisions are prioritized to address these challenges. Additionally, some challenges for simulation toolkits have been discussed for the success of the building energy retrofit project. This work helps building practitioners and researchers with in-depth understanding challenges for cost-effective optimal retrofitting within buildings to attain energy conservation and sustainability.

A Grey-Fuzzy Multiobjective Model for Supplier Selection and Production-Distribution Planning Considering Consumer Safety

Muhammad Saad Memon; Sonia Irshad Mari; Faheemullah Shaikh; Shakeel Ahmed Shaikh

Most of the recent product recall incidents indicate that effective management of suppliers and production-distribution planning may play a vital role in increasing product safety. This study explores the opportunities to increase the product safety by analyzing the performance of suppliers and production-distribution system. More precisely, this research analyzes the impact of suppliers’ performance on overall profit of supply chain and impact of increasing consumer safety on total profit of supply chain. The novelty of this study is the development of integrated supplier selection and production-distribution model considering consumer risk and product safety. The proposed model is a grey multiobjective model which considers imprecise information as grey parameters. Furthermore, a novel grey-weighted e-constrained (GWECON) method is developed to solve the proposed multiobjective model.

Energy Conservation through Motors in Pakistan's Industrial Sector- Need to use of Energy Efficient Motors

Mahesh Rathi; Pervez Hameed Shaikh; Faheemullah Shaikh; M. Aslam Uqailli

ABSTRACT Pakistan is an energy deficit country. The purpose of this research paper is to shed light on current Pakistan’s electrical energy conservation efforts and on potential of electrical energy saving in different sectors, this paper also describes the usage of energy efficient motors technologies for the industrial processes because 30% - 70 % of electricity is consumed by motors load. Different countries use their codes, standards and regulation as voluntarily, mandatorily to conserve electricity but Pakistan yet lacks behind. Keywords Energy Efficiency in motors, industrial motors, Energy audit 1. INTRODUCTION Global warming, fossil fuel depletion, the growth of new large economies interlace the uncomfortable situation on world’s energy outlook, this ultimately makes higher energy commodity prices and economic disruption to the society. The following Fig 1 shows the oil and gas production and demand level, the increasing line showing the demand is increasing incessantly where as production level is decreasing [1,2].
