A new guaianolide, taraxacin (1), and a known sesquiterpene ketolactone (2) have been isolated from an ethyl acetate-soluble part of a methanolic extract of Taraxacum wallichii. The structure of 1 was established using NMR, MS, and X-ray crystallographic methods. The (13)C NMR data of 2 is also being reported for the first time.

Alkaloids of Fumaria indica

Atta-ur-Rahman; M.Khalid Bhatti; Farzana Akhtar; M. Iqbal Choudhary

Abstract Two new alkaloids, papracinine and paprazine, were isolated from the aerial parts of Fumaria indica . Their structures were determined by spectral studies. Six more alkaloids isolated for the first time from this plant were identified as fumaritine N -oxide, parfumine, lastourvilline, feruloyl tyramine, fumariflorine and N -methyl corydaldine.

Three p-cymene derivatives from Zataria multiflora

Muhammad Shaiq Ali; Muhammad Saleem; Farzana Akhtar; Muhammad Jahangir; Masood Parvez; Viqar Uddin Ahmad

Two new p-cymene derivatives named zataroside-A and zataroside-B and a new triacetoxy derivative of the same skeleton have been detected from Zataria multiflora along with p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Their structures were elucidated with the aid of NMR spectroscopy. Zataroside-A was also confirmed by X-ray diffraction technique and the same compound was found to be a strong plant growth inhibiting agent.

New isoflavones from Ceiba pentandra

F.N. Ngounou; A.L Meli; David Lontsi; B.L. Sondengam; Atta-ur-Rahman; M. Iqbal Choudhary; Shahid Malik; Farzana Akhtar

Two new isoflavones, pentandrin (1) and pentandrin glucoside (2), were isolated from the stem barks of Ceiba pentandra along with beta-sitosterol and its 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, which was isolated for the first time from this plant. The structures of these compounds were elucidated with the help of spectroscopic techniques, while the structure of 1 was unambiguously confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.

Atta-Ur-Rehman; Saeedan Begum; Sumayya Saied; M. Iqbal Choudhary; Farzana Akhtar

Abstract A steroidal glycoside, 3- O -β- d -galactopyranosyl-(24β)-ethylcolesta-5.22.25-trien ( 1 ), was isolated from Clerodendron inerme . Clerosterol and glutinol were also isolated from this plant.

Salvadiol: A Novel Triterpenoid from Salvia bucharica.

Viqar Uddin Ahmad; Muhammad Zahid; Muhammad Shaiq Ali; Mohammad Iqbal Choudhary; Farzana Akhtar; Zulfiqar Ali; Muhammad Iqbal

Abstract Salvadiol ( 1 ), a triterpene with a novel carbon skeleton has been isolated from the hexane soluble part of Salvia bucharica and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The NMR data were rationalized on the basis of structure 1 determined by the X-ray technique. A biogenetic pathway for salvadiol is proposed.

Three New Diterpenoids from Euphorbia cheiradenia

Muhammad Abbas; Muhammad Zahid; Zulfiqar Ali; Naseer Alam; Farzana Akhtar; M. Iqbal Choudhary; Viqar Uddin Ahmad

Three new diterpene esters, cheiradone (1), cheiradone A (2), and cheiradone B (3), were isolated from the aerial parts of Euphorbia cheiradenia, collected in Iran. The structures were determined using different spectroscopic methods, including 1D and 2D NMR and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract From the roots of Taxus baccata, two new taxane derivatives, taxa-4(20),11-diene-10β-methoxy-2α,5α-diacetoxy-14β,α-methylbutyrate (1) and taxa-4(20-),11-diene-5α-hydroxy-1β, 7β,9α, 10β-tetraacetate (2) were obtained together with the known diterpenoids taxusin (3) 7β-acetoxytaxusin (4) and 2-deacetoxytaxinin J (5). In addition to these diterpenoids, a compound previously identified as taxa-4 (20), 11-diene, 5α,7β,10β-triacetoxy-2α,α-methylbutyrate was isolated and its structure has been revised as taxa-4(20), 11-diene-2α,5α,10β-triacetoxy-14β, α-methylbutyrate (6).
