Phenotypic factors and genetic group on the selling price formation of beef calves sold in auctions at the Northern region of Paraná State, Brazil

The aim of this study is to estimate the effects of phenotypic traits on the final price of calves sold at auctions in the region of northern Parana. Data were collected between April 2011 and April 2012 at 12 auctions, in which 197 lots were offered, totaling 4,289 animals. In this study, only the final prices charged when the deals were closed have been considered. Calves belonging to the British genetic group reached higher marketing value than zebu calves; the largest animals presented higher liquidity; buyers preferred more uniform lots, regardless of the sex of the animals.

Morfometria ovariana de bovinos de abate em Ibiporã – Paraná

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a morfometria ovariana de 123 pares de ovarios (79 gestantes – G1 e 48 nao gestantes – G2) que foram coletadas em abatedouro em Ibipora, estado do Parana. As dimensoes ovarianas foram mensuradas usando um paquimetro digital medindo-se o comprimento e largura dos ovarios direito e esquerdo, a presenca de cistos foliculares e de corpo luteo (CL). Em vacas leiteiras foram observadas diferenca significativa para o tamanho do ovario direito em animais do grupo G1 ou G2 em relacao ao ovario esquerdo, cujas dimensoes eram menores em gado de corte. Foram observados 35,41% de cistos foliculares. Nao havendo diferenca estatistica na frequencia de corpo luteo nas aptidoes de corte e leite.

Morphometric characteristics of ovaries from cows collected at a abattoir in Ibipora - Paraná

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the ovarian morphometry from 123 pairs of ovaries cows (79 pregnant – G1 and 48 non-pregnant – G2) were collected in slaughterhouses in Ibipora, state Paraná. Ovarian dimensions were measured using digital pachymeter measured in thickness e width from the right and left ovaries, the follicle and the corpora lutea (CL) were examined. In dairy cows was observed significant difference for size of the right ovaries in G1 and G2 with the left ovary, the dimensions of ovaries right were lower in beef cows. It was observed 35,41% ovarian cysts. Its wasn’t difference significant the frequency of corpora lutea in the right and left side and dairy e beef cattle.
