ABSTRACT The whole-genome sequence of Pseudomonas balearica SP1402 (DSM 6083T) has been completed and annotated. It was isolated as a naphthalene degrader from water of a lagooning wastewater treatment plant. P. balearica strains tolerate up to 8.5% NaCl and are considered true marine denitrifiers.

ABSTRACT Here, we report the complete genome sequence of Mycobacterium immunogenum type strain CCUG 47286, a nontuberculous mycobacterium. The whole genome has 5,573,781 bp and covers as many as 5,484 predicted genes. This genome contributes to the task of closing the still-existing gap of genomes of rapidly growing mycobacterial type strains.

ABSTRACT The draft genome sequence has been determined for an extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing (blaCTX-M-15) Escherichia coli strain (CCUG 62462), composed of 119 contigs and a total size of 5.27 Mb. This E. coli is serotype O25b and sequence type 131, a pandemic clonal group, causing worldwide antimicrobial-resistant infections.

ABSTRACT Streptococcus gordonii type strain CCUG 33482T is a member of the Streptococcus mitis group, isolated from a case of subacute bacterial endocarditis. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of S. gordonii CCUG 33482T, composed of 41 contigs of a total size of 2.15 Mb with 2,061 annotated coding sequences.

First insights into a type II toxin-antitoxin system from the clinical isolate Mycobacterium sp. MHSD3, similar to epsilon/zeta systems

Daniel Jaén-Luchoro; Francisco Aliaga-Lozano; Rosa Gomila; Margarita Gomila; Francisco Salvà-Serra; Jorge Lalucat; Antoni Bennasar-Figueras

A putative type II toxin-antitoxin (TA) system was found in the clinical isolate Mycobacterium sp. MHSD3, a strain closely related to Mycobacterium chelonae. Further analyses of the protein sequences of the two genes revealed the presence of domains related to a TA system. BLAST analyses indicated the presence of closely related proteins in the genomes of other recently published M. chelonae strains. The functionality of both elements of the TA system was demonstrated when expressed in Escherichia coli cells, and the predicted structure of the toxin is very similar to those of well-known zeta-toxins, leading to the definition of a type II TA system similar to epsilon/zeta TA systems in strains that are closely related to M. chelonae.

Genome Sequences of Two Naphthalene-Degrading Strains of Pseudomonas balearica, Isolated from Polluted Marine Sediment and from an Oil Refinery Site

Francisco Salvà-Serra; Hedvig E. Jakobsson; Antonio Busquets; Margarita Gomila; Daniel Jaén-Luchoro; Carolina Seguí; Francisco Aliaga-Lozano; Elena García-Valdés; Jorge Lalucat; Edward R. B. Moore; Antoni Bennasar-Figueras

ABSTRACT The genome sequences of Pseudomonas balearica strains LS401 (CCUG 66666) and st101 (CCUG 66667) have been determined. The strains were isolated as naphthalene degraders from polluted marine sediment and from a sample from an oil refinery site, respectively. These genomes provide essential data about the biodegradation capabilities and the ecological implications of P. balearica.

Hedvig E. Jakobsson; Francisco Salvà-Serra; Kaisa Thorell; Roger Karlsson; Lucia Gonzales-Siles; Fredrik Boulund; Lars Engstrand; Erik Kristiansson; Edward R.B. Moorea

ABSTRACT Streptococcus pneumoniae is a pathogenic bacterium found most commonly in the respiratory tract of humans and is a common cause of pneumonia and bacterial meningitis. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of six S. pneumoniae strains: CCUG 1350, CCUG 7206, CCUG 11780, CCUG 33774, CCUG 35180, and CCUG 35272.

Complete Genome Sequence of Mycobacterium chelonae Type Strain CCUG 47445, a Rapidly Growing Species of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria

Daniel Jaén-Luchoro; Francisco Salvà-Serra; Francisco Aliaga-Lozano; Carolina Seguí; Antonio Busquets; Antonio Ramírez; Mikel Ruíz; Margarita Gomila; Jorge Lalucat; Antoni Bennasar-Figueras

ABSTRACT Mycobacterium chelonae strains are ubiquitous rapidly growing mycobacteria associated with skin and soft tissue infections, cellulitis, abscesses, osteomyelitis, catheter infections, disseminated diseases, and postsurgical infections after implants with prostheses, transplants, and even hemodialysis procedures. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of M. chelonae type strain CCUG 47445.
