Criteria for the development of complex teaching-learning environments

This article tries to bring together recenttheory and practice in instructional design, onthe one side, and curricular as well asdidactic research results on the other. Thefocus is on processes that are necessary to themodeling of ‘reality’, with regard to thecorresponding scientific description of goalsand content-units and to the teaching andlearning processes. The steps in theconstruction and implementation processes arevisualized and discussed with reference to acomplex teaching-learning environment.

Workplace-based competence measurement: developing innovative assessment systems for tomorrow’s VET programmes

As a consequence of the large-scale assessment studies (TIMMS; PISA) in compulsory schooling, attention is now being given to the modelling and measurement of competencies in initial vocational education and training. This new output-led perspective of teaching/training and learning/working processes demands new approaches to research. Using the concept of the curriculum–instruction–assessment triad this paper argues that competencies in the fields of business and commerce education can be determined and compared internationally via a large-scale assessment. Empirical results are presented that demonstrate the possibilities of running such an international study in VET.

Goals for further vocational education and training: The view of employees and the view of superiors

Abstract Empirical studies have been conducted in four large enterprises: a communication industry, an automobile firm, a travel agency, and a regional bank. The main research focus was on the views of employees and superiors on the goals of corporate training, both personal goals and strategic managerial goals. In addition, principal components of goals and their dependencies on person attributes were investigated.

Kompetenzdiagnostik als large-Scale-Assessment im Bereich der beruflichen Aus- und Weiterbildung

Der Beitrag stellt Probleme der Vorbereitung und Durchfuhrung einer internationalen Vergleichsstudie im Bereich der beruflichen Bildung als Large-Scale-Assessment dar. Dabei werden Unterschiede der Anlage einer solchen Studie zu den Prinzipien herausgestellt, die fur TIMSS oder PISA gegolten haben und gelten. Angesichts der grundlegenden okonomischen und sozialen Wandlungen stehen die Beschaftigungsund Ausbildungssysteme aller Industriestaaten vor neuen Herausforderungen, die mit unterschiedlichem Erfolg gemeistert werden. Angemessene Beurteilungen der entsprechenden Bemuhungen haben die Zielstruktur beruflicher Bildungsprozesse zu berucksichtigen. Im Hinblick auf die Erfassung der Leistungsfahigkeit unterschiedlicher Berufsbildungssysteme geht es in dem vorgestellten Projekt um Fragen der Messung beruflicher Handlungskompetenz, um die Erfassung der relevanten Rahmenbedingungen sowie um die Identifikation von international vergleichbaren Berufsfeldern und Erwerbstatigkeiten. Es werden erste Schritte zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen gegangen und zugleich die Schwierigkeiten der entsprechenden Operationalisierungsprozesse behandelt. Hinweise auf Probleme bei der Anlage der Studie sowie der Stichprobenziehung bilden den Schluss.

Thus, the labor market has increased its interest in employees with entre- and intrapreneurial mindsets for mastering the tremendous competitions in various markets. The comparative advantages in today’s competition are to a smaller extent rather cost issues, than innovations and unique selling propositions (USP) (Antoncic & Hisrich, 2001).

Mastery-Learning mit Hilfe eines multimedial repräsentierten Modellunternehmens in der Ausbildung von Industriekaufleuten

Das dargestellte Projekt geht davon aus, dass eine zukunftsbezogene kauf- mannische Ausbildung die folgenden Zielsetzungen aktiv aufgreifen und — entsprechend den jeweils ortlich gegebenen Moglichkeiten — umsetzen sollte: Anderung der Ziel- und Inhaltsstruktur der kaufmannischen Ausbildung im Hinblick auf einen systemtheoretisch orientierten Ansatz; Anderung der didaktischen und methodischen Konzepte im Hinblick auf handlungsorientierte Verfahren; Einsatz komplexer Lehr-Lern-Arrangements (in sequentieller Verknupfung); Nutzung der neuen Technologien (bis hin zum Anschlus an Verfahren moderner Informationsverarbeitung, wie z. B. SAP); Veranderung der Diagnose-, Prufungs- und Evaluationsverfahren, damit diese den neuen didaktischen Anforderungen (die zugleich okonomisch gefordert sind) entsprechen; Verbesserung der sachlichen Ausstattung von Schulen und Hochschulen und Modernisierung der Aus- und Weiterbildung von Lehrern und Ausbildern.

Becoming an Entrepreneur

Competent entrepreneurial activity seems to be indispensable as it significantly affects the quality of people’ s lives: Several studies show that entrepreneurship behavior stimulates economic growth, social welfare and human cohesion, but it also upholds individual employability, as well as the autonomy of the stakeholders. Thus, entrepreneurial activity is declared as one of the key competencies for lifelong learning.

Planspieleinsatz in der betriebswirtschaftlichen Erstausbildung

Im Rahmen des Forschungsprojektes ”Lernen, Denken, Handeln in komplexen okonomischen Situationen — unter Nutzung neuer Technologien in der kaufmannischen Berufsausbildung” entwickelten wir ein computergestutztes Planspiel fur die Anfangsphase der kaufmannischen Berufsausbildung im Fach Betriebswirtschaftslehre. Dieses Planspiel wird durch eine didaktische Konzeption des Planspielunterrichts erganzt, die darauf abzielt, fachspezifischen Wissenserwerb mit der Forderung fachubergreifender Fahigkeiten zu koppeln.

Competence Domains and Vocational-Professional Education in Germany

Discussing competence issues for vocational-professional education in Germany, one has to take into account its ‘collective skill formation regime’ that means a strong commitment of the state as well as of the firms. As this structure and organization have a long and tension-intensive historical tradition, we describe firstly some cornerstones of the German skill formation system as it is structured nowadays and installed by Federal Law. Secondly, the focus is on the alignment of ‘curriculum-instruction-assessment’ triad to secure a powerful organization for a competence-oriented VET. Thirdly, a comprehensive VET-PISA concept is introduced as a suggestion for modelling, measuring competence domains as well as monitoring VET on a programme and national level. Therefore, three pre-studies are introduced: a feasibility study for a large-scale assessment in VET, a study for identifying cross-national overlaps of competence in the area of technique, business and health and a study on first authentic assessments. Finally, an example of the current pilot from the business VET sector within the national ASCOT Initiative is introduced.
