With BMW providing leadership, the BMW Group and PSA have developed a new series of small petrol engines. For both partners, the new engines are a significant improvement in the task of reducing CO2 emissions. A fully variable valve drive and the combination of direct injection with turbocharging by means of a twin scroll turbocharger are being used for the first time in this vehicle class. A volume-controlled oil pump, a mechanical on-demand water pump and consistent frictional power optimisation make a considerable contribution towards achieving a generous torque characteristic and good specific fuel consumption in all variants. With BMW providing leadership, the BMW Group and PSA have developed a new series of small petrol engines. In addition to the BMW ActiveHybrid X6, which was launched onto the market in October 2009 as a full hybrid, BMW is now unveiling the ActiveHybrid 7, a mild hybrid, as a further model in the series. BMW Group has already delivered 1.8 million BMW cars featuring EfficientDynamics technology to customers. As a result, a large number of BMW models have consumption-reducing measures built in. Only by this means was fleet consumption able to fall to below 160 g CO2 / km by as early as 2008.
