Mott Transition from a Spin Liquid to a Fermi Liquid in the Spin-Frustrated Organic Conductor kappa-(ET)~2Cu~2(CN)~3

Y. Kurosaki; Y. Shimizu; Kazuya Miyagawa; Kazushi Kanoda; G. Saito

The pressure-temperature phase diagram of the organic Mott insulator kappa-(ET)2Cu2(CN)3, a model system of the spin liquid on triangular lattice, has been investigated by 1H NMR and resistivity measurements. The spin-liquid phase is persistent before the Mott transition to the metal or superconducting phase under pressure. At the Mott transition, the spin fluctuations are rapidly suppressed and the Fermi-liquid features are observed in the temperature dependence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate and resistivity. The characteristic curvature of the Mott boundary in the phase diagram highlights a crucial effect of the spin frustration on the Mott transition.

H-NMR investigation of the SDW wave-number in (TMTTF)/sub 2/Br

T. Nakamura; Tomoko Nobutoki; Y. Kobayashi; T. Takahashi; G. Saito

Abstract We performed the measurement of 1H-NMR lineshape in the spin density wave (SDW) state of (TMTTF)2Br, in which a “commensurate” SDW state had been suggested in the recent 13C-NMR measurement. We found the most possible SDW wave-number to be ( 1 2 , 1 4 , 0 ) and the amplitude be 0.14μB/molecule by a precise analysis of angular dependence of 1H-NMR lineshape. The wave-number is commensurate but very close to that of the incommensurate SDW in (TMTSF)2PF6. The SDW characteristics in (TMTTF)2Br are discussed.

. We observe an anomalous field-dependent spectral broadening with the continuous and bipolar shift distribution, appearing without the critical spin fluctuations. It is attributable to spatially nonuniform magnetizations induced in the spin liquid under magnetic fields. The amplitude of the magnetization levels off below
