The K-electron capture probability in the decay of 167Tm for the first-forbidden transition 1/2+ to 3/2- was measured using the sum-coincidence method and employing a hyper-pure Ge system. The PK value is found to be 0.835+or-0.029, in agreement with the theoretical value of 0.829.

The K-conversion coefficient of 58.6 keV (2+ to 5+) M3 gamma transition in 60mCo and the total conversion coefficient of 479.53 keV (7+ to 3-) M4 gamma transition in 90mY were measured by X-ray, gamma -ray and intensity balance methods, respectively, using high-resolution solid-state detectors. The values obtained were alpha K=39.04+or-1.90 in 60mCo and alpha T=0.0990+or-0.0013 in 90mY. These results are seen to be consistent with the theoretical values due to Rosel and co-workers (1978).

N. V. S. Vara Prasad; G. Sree Krishna Murty; M. V. S. Chandrasekhar Rao; G. Satyanarayana; D. L. Sastry; S N Chintalapudi

The K-electron capture probability for the 1/2- to 3/2- transition in the decay of 87Y to the 873.0 keV level in the daughter 87Sr was measured for the first time using an x- gamma summing method. The experimental Pk value was found to be 0.911+or-0.047, in agreement with the theoretical value of 0.878.

A study of (Lβ2,15+Lβ5+Lβ6)/(Lα1+Lα2) ratio in 5d-shell elements and their compounds

G. Sree Krishna Murty; M. V. S. Chandrasekhar Rao; K. Radha Krishna; S. Bhuloka Reddy; G. Satyanarayana; D. L. Sastry

Abstract We have studied the dependence of (L β2,15 +L β5 +L β6 )/(L α1 +L α2 ) ratio on the chemical constitution of the X-ray emitting atom in Hf, Ta, W and Hg of 5d-shell elements through a selective excitation of the L III subshell. The results show that the variation in this ratio is up to 25% when compared with those of pure elements.

G. Sree Krishna Murty; N. V. S. Vara Prasad; M. V. S. Chandrasedhar Rao; M. Ravi Kumar; G. Satyanarayana; D. L. Sastry

SummaryTheK-electron capture probabilities for the 7/2−→7/2− and 7/2−→5/2− transitions in161Ho were measured for the first time using the X-γ sum peak method. The correspondingPK values were found to be 0.836±0.042 and 0.814±0.023, respectively, in agreement with the theoretically predicted values.

M. V. S. Chandrasekhar Rao; G. Sree Krishna Murty; K. Radha Krishna; S. Bhuloka Reddy; G. Satyanarayana; C. V. Raghavaiah; D. L. Sastry; S. N. Chintalapudi

TheK-electron capture probabilities for the 1/2− → 3/2− and 1/2− → 1/2+ transitions in the decay of105Ag were measured for the first time using the sum coincidence method. The experimental PK values were estimated to be 0.824 ± 0.042 and 0.851 ±0.046 for the allowed and first-forbidden beta transitions, respectively in agreement with the theory. The PL experimental values to these two levels were also computed using the experimental PL/PK values reported by earlier authors. These results are also found to be consistent with the theoretical PL values.

M. V. S. Chandrasekhar Rao; G. Sree Krishna Murty; N. V. S. Vara Prasad; G. Satyanarayana; D. L. Sastry

SummaryThe conversion coefficientsαT andαK the 48.85 keVM3 isomeric transition in the decay of80mBr were measured to be 297.8±10.6 and 209.9±21.2, respectively employing a low-energy high-resolution photon detector. These results are in agreement with the theory and the experimental values due to the earlier authors.

Determination of conversion coefficients in the decay of167Tm

G. Sree Krishna Murty; M. V. S. Chandrasekhar Rao; S. Bhuloka Reddy; G. Satyanarayana; D. L. Sastry

SummaryTheK-conversion coefficient of the 207.8 keVE3 transition was measured to be 0.47±0.02 consistent with the theory and the earlier measurements. The αL value of the 57.1 keVM1 transition was measured for the first time as 18.34±0.66 which showed anE2 admixture of 12% when compared with theory.
