The K-electron capture probability in the decay of 167Tm for the first-forbidden transition 1/2+ to 3/2- was measured using the sum-coincidence method and employing a hyper-pure Ge system. The PK value is found to be 0.835+or-0.029, in agreement with the theoretical value of 0.829.

Zinc was determined in human head hair samples from male and female mental patients and normal subjects using energy-dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometry. The average Zn levels were higher in male mental patients than in normal subjects. No statistically significant difference was seen in the corresponding Zn values for females.

The K-conversion coefficient of 58.6 keV (2+ to 5+) M3 gamma transition in 60mCo and the total conversion coefficient of 479.53 keV (7+ to 3-) M4 gamma transition in 90mY were measured by X-ray, gamma -ray and intensity balance methods, respectively, using high-resolution solid-state detectors. The values obtained were alpha K=39.04+or-1.90 in 60mCo and alpha T=0.0990+or-0.0013 in 90mY. These results are seen to be consistent with the theoretical values due to Rosel and co-workers (1978).

The K-electron capture probabilities for the 5/2+ to 3/2- transition in the electron capture decay of 183Re to the 208.805 keV level in the daughter 183W and for the 3(+) to 3- and 3(+) to 4/sup /transitions in the electron capture decay of 168Tm to the 1541.4 keV and 1093.9 keV levels, respectively, in the daughter 168Er were measured for the first time using an X- gamma summing method. The experimental PK values are reported in this paper, together with those due to theory, and discussed.

The K-electron capture probability for the 1/2- to 3/2- transition in the decay of 87Y to the 873.0 keV level in the daughter 87Sr was measured for the first time using an x- gamma summing method. The experimental Pk value was found to be 0.911+or-0.047, in agreement with the theoretical value of 0.878.

Abstract We have studied the dependence of (L β2,15 +L β5 +L β6 )/(L α1 +L α2 ) ratio on the chemical constitution of the X-ray emitting atom in Hf, Ta, W and Hg of 5d-shell elements through a selective excitation of the L III subshell. The results show that the variation in this ratio is up to 25% when compared with those of pure elements.

SummaryThe decay properties of61Cu produced by59Co (α, 2n) reaction is investigated with a 100 cc Ge(Li) detector. The present study confirms the presence of 215.5, 625.5, 947.3 and 1014.4 keV gamma transitions reported by Meyeret al. A new 117.5 keV gamma transition is also observed in the present studies. We found evidence for the existence of 701.1 and 2120 keV gamma transitions. There is no indication for the other new gamma-rays reported by Meyeret al. The rest of the decay scheme agrees with that of earlier investigations.

The relative K-electron capture probabilities (P K ) to the 1383.23, 896.98, 618.09, 442.78 and 322.43 keV levels in 99 Ru in the decay of 99 Rh are measured employing the X- internal sum-coincidence technique. The measured values P K 1383.23 = 0.851 ± 0.066, P K 896.98 = 0.834 ± 0.061, P K 618.09 = 0.870 ± 0.01, P K 442.78 = 0.882 ± 0.035 and P K 322.43 = 0.852 ± 0.061 are found to be in good agreement with the theoretical values. The dependence of P K on EC transition energy is discussed.

TheK-electron capture probabilities for the 1/2− → 3/2− and 1/2− → 1/2+ transitions in the decay of105Ag were measured for the first time using the sum coincidence method. The experimental PK values were estimated to be 0.824 ± 0.042 and 0.851 ±0.046 for the allowed and first-forbidden beta transitions, respectively in agreement with the theory. The PL experimental values to these two levels were also computed using the experimental PL/PK values reported by earlier authors. These results are also found to be consistent with the theoretical PL values.
