Mathematics and physics as a part the occupational safety and health study programme

Danka Lukáčová; Gabriel Bánesz

Since the academic year 2005/2006 the Faculty of Education at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, has offered a possibility to study a bachelor study program Occupational Safety and Health. As the students of this study program used to have problems to manage some technical subjects included in its curricula, in 2009 there was added an additional subject into the content of the study program, particularly it was the subject Applied mathematics and physics. Within this course students acquire basic knowledge of mathematics and physics necessary for further study in the technical field of the occupational safety and health. In the paper there are presented results of the survey which was consequently carried out to find out impact of introduction of the mentioned additional subject on the students performance.

Lifelong learning in the professional practice

Jana Depešová; Ivana Tureková; Gabriel Bánesz

Education of employees is an ongoing process in which adaptation and changes in working behavior, level of knowledge, skills and employee motivation occur through the use of diferent strategies, styles and methods. The result is a reduction in the differences between the current competencies of employees and the requirements imposed on them by employers, respectively between the requirements of the labor market and their competitiveness. The process of learning in the professional practice involves identification of educational requirements, learning objectives, education planning, selection of appropriate educational institution, the very implementation of education, and evaluation of the educational effectiveness of staff and organization. On the basis of theoretical assumptions we have conducted a study aimed to analyze the lifelong learning on a representative sample of organizations in professional technical practice in Slovakia in relation to the recommendations of the European Union and the Government of Slovak Republic. The research was aimed to determine how, at what level, and by what means Slovak universities participate in lifelong learning in manufacturing organizations. In the research we focused on the relationship of production organizations and employees to further education and self-education in the phase of their career development and career promotion.

E-learning assisted teaching of technical subjects

Gabriel Bánesz; Alena Hašková

Nowadays electronic form of teaching is proclaimed to be an imperative mainly for tertiary level of education. On the other hand many research results show that higher efficiency of education is achieved by the use of blended learning. The paper presents experiences and research results of the authors related to the use of e-learning as supporting tool to traditional forms of education at higher education institutions to eliminate study problems of students coming to universities from different types of secondary schools. To help the students of the bachelor study programme Occupational Health and Safety to cope with their study problems in relation to the compulsory subject Machines and machine elements they created an electronic course offering the students a possibility to acquire eventual missing knowledge necessary to pass the practical exercises included in the subject. As the teacher experiences and research data of the designed e-course verification show, students given at disposal this e-course as a learning assistance tool have no serious problems to do the practical assignments they are expected to fulfil during the lessons.

The possibilities of using experiments in education of special technical subjects

Gabriel Bánesz; Danka Lukáčová; Jana Depešová; Lukas Vanek

The use of experiments in the education students of technical disciplines gain the necessary knowledge and skills for controlling technical equipment. Such experiments can be carried out in education directly or through remote means of so-called remote real experiments. The report presents two possible ways of using electro panel in education through remote and direct exercises on the subject called Parts of machines and machines. The students have an available e-learning course for preparation for the direct work with the electro-pneumatic panels. Experiences and results from the use of this course are summarized in this report. As a research method to verify the knowledge from the usage of the course an electronic test was used, which results are prepared by descriptive statistic.

How to support technology education: What does the practice in Slovakia show

Alena Hašková; Gabriel Bánesz

In 2008 in Slovakia a curricula reform was introduced into the primary and secondary schools. In terms of technology education on the one hand the reform cut the number of compulsory lessons devoted to technology education but on the other hand it provided schools large possibilities to support technology education through additional so-called disposable lessons, which they might incorporate in their School Education Programmes. The paper presents some main results of a qualitative analysis which was carried out to find the consequences of the curricula reform on the technology education carried out in practice in primary and lower secondary schools (ISCED 2). The aim of the research was to find out to which level the schools have used the possibility to increase the number of lessons devoted to technology education, what were the reasons for schools that influenced their decision to increase the number of the lessons devoted to technology education, as well as what were the main reasons or barriers why they did not incorporate in their School Education Programmes additional hours or subjects related to the technology education.

Quality assessment of remote real experiments and their use in practice

Danka Lukáčová; Gabriel Bánesz; Alena Hašková

At the higher education institutions education by means of the remote real experiments education has been in use for several years. It has become a part of mainly science and technology fields. Besides the unquestionable economic and technical advantages it is necessary to monitor also the effectiveness of the didactic use of remote real experiments, which is examined in this article. Based on an analysis of different scientific and professional publications the authors suggest the quality evaluation criteria of remote real experiments that would serve teachers in practice to evaluate didactic and educational aspects of remote real experiments. The authors also present data achieved through a questionnaire survey on the use of remote real experiments.
