We evaluate the decays B => K* pi, K (rho, omega, phi) adding the long distance charming penguin contributions to the short distance: Tree+Penguin amplitudes. We estimate the imaginary part of the charming penguin by an effective field theory inspired by the Heavy Quark Effective Theory and parameterize its real part. The final results for branching ratios depend on only two real parameters and show a significant role of the charming penguins. The overall agreement with the available experimental data is satisfactory.

Leptonic and semileptonic decay widths of theBc meson, as well as its mass, are evaluated by QCD sum rules. The possibility of discovering this meson at present and future high energy machines is also discussed.

Abstract In the framework of a QCD inspired relativistic potential model, we evaluate radiative decay rates of heavy mesons and their coupling with soft pions. The agreement with the existing experimental data is satisfactory. In the limit m Q → ∞ one obtains results in agreement with the Heavy Quark Effective Theory and is able to predict the values of the relevant couplings; in particular, for the scaled B * B π strong coupling constant g , we find that the non relativistic constituent quark model prediction g =1 is modified, by the inclusion of the relativistic effects due to the light quarks, to the value g =1/3, in agreement with recent QCD sum rules determination.

We present calculations of the charming-penguin long-distance contributions to B{r_arrow}K{pi} decays due to intermediate charmed meson states. Our calculation is based on the chiral effective Lagrangian for light and heavy mesons, corrected for the hard pion and kaon momenta. We find that the charming-penguin contributions increase significantly the B{r_arrow}K{pi} decay rates in comparison with the short-distance contributions, giving results in better agreement with experimental data.

We discuss specific heat and neutrino emissivity due to direct Urca processes for quark matter in the color superconductive Larkin-Ovchinnikov-Fulde-Ferrell (LOFF) phase of quantum chromodynamics. We assume that the three light quarks u, d, s are in a color and electrically neutral state and interact by a four-fermion Nambu-Jona-Lasinio coupling. We study a LOFF state characterized by a single plane wave for each pairing. From the evaluation of neutrino emissivity and fermionic specific heat, the cooling rate of simplified models of compact stars with a quark core in the LOFF state is estimated.

We estimate final state interactions in the B-meson decays into two light vector mesons by the Regge model. We consider Pomeron exchange and charmed Regge trajectories that can relate intermediate charmed particles to the final state. The Regge poles have various helicity-flip residues, which allows a change from the longitudinal to transverse polarization. In this way a significant reduction of the longitudinal polarization fraction can be produced. In the factorization approximation we find agreement with recent data from the BaBar and Belle collaborations in the B => K* phi decay channel, as a result of an appropriate choice of semileptonic form factors and Regge exchanges. On the other hand, data for the K* rho decay channels appear more elusive. The soft effects discussed in the present paper are based on a model of Regge trajectories that is shown to reproduce correctly in the non-charmed case the Regge phenomenology of light mesons.

Abstract We show that large asymmetries in the scattering of polarized nucleons at large energies can be understood in terms of nucleon wave function effects induced by the parity-violating, strangeness coserving, weak non-leptonic hamiltonian.
