One of the most common acute side effects of irradiation is xerostomia, which results from damage to the salivary gland cells by direct ionization. Resveratrol is a natural compound with profound anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the potential protective effects of resveratrol on injury to the salivary glands of rats that were exposed to total body irradiation.

OBJECTIVES We investigated the semicircular canal (SC) dehiscence using temporal computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 114 (228 ears) consecutive MR images and CT scans of the temporal bones for dehiscence of the SCs. In the 1.5 Tesla (T) MR imaging, T1 and T2-weighted images were obtained. Dehiscence of the SCs was defined by absence of high attenuation bone coverage on the CT scans, and absence of low-signal bone margins on the MR images. RESULTS Superior SC dehiscence was detected in 4 (1.8%) ears using CT scans and 5 (2.2%) ears using MR imaging. Posterior SC dehiscence was detected in 4 (1.8%) ears using CT scans and 4 (1.8%) ears using MR imaging. In the non-dehiscent cases, there was hypointense bone coverage between the canal and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). However, in the cases of semicircular canal dehiscence, hypointense bone tissue did not appear between the canal and the CSF in the MR imaging. CONCLUSION If there is clinical doubt about the presence of SC dehiscence, we recommend that MR imaging be conducted first. When dehiscence is not seen in the MR, a CT examination should be performed. MR imaging is preferred primarily, because it does not contain ionizing radiation.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of passive and active smoking on NMC by comparing the results of age and sex matched healthy individuals, passive and active smokers. Material and Method: A total of 75 subjects met the criteria and were divided into three groups: control group (nonsmokers, group 1, n =25), passive smokers group(group 2, n =25), active smokers group (group 3, n =25). NMC of these subjects were measured and compared. Moreover, the amount of cigarette consumption of active smokers group were calculated as package to year and the correlation between NMC and the amount of cigarette consumption. in active smokers group were evaluated. Results: The mean NMC in passive smokers group and active smokers group were significantly longer than the control group (p=0,0001) The comparison of NMC values between the passive smokers group and the active smokers group revealed no statistically significant dif ferences (p≥0,05). There was positive correlation between the increase in NMC and amount of cigarette consumption in the active smokers group ( p=0,0001,r=0.433). Discussion: Both active and passive smoking prolonged nasal mucociliary clearance time when they were compared with healthy controls. Tobacco exposure is associated diseases such as asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis, and lower airway infections. It may be related to the direct effect of prolonged NMC.

Mantle hucreli lenfoma (MHL) cok sayida B-hucreli lenfoma subtiplerinden biridir.
