Investigating the Relationship between Organizational Culture, Educational Leadership and Trust in Schools

Abstract The desired level in order to be successful in teaching is paralleled with the success in the performance of school administrators in educational organizations. In terms of efficiency of the educational system, instructional leadership of school principals, has a very important place. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between school culture, instructional leadership and organizational trust of the secondary school principals in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Gender, age, seniority, years of work tasks, professional seniority, school culture, instructional leadership and relationships of organizational trust was also examined in the study. According to the findings of the study, there were significant differences between school culture of the school principals and instructional leadership. However, there have been also significant differences in instructional leadership and organizational trust and between school culture and organizational trust. According to these results, the instructional leadership of the higher culture school administrators is at the highest level. It is also the feature of high school principals’ and the instructional leadership tasks they do to be successful in school, teachers have obtained their performance results that they would increase their level of organizational trust.

The Evaluation of Strategies Used to Improve Teaching and Learning in Education Society

Abstract This research evaluated the strategies used to improve teaching and learning in secondary schools, which fosters quality in management. A case study has been applied. In this study, the semi-structured interview technique was used. Research data was obtained from the National Education General Secondary Education affiliated to the schools from which 13 school principals who work in public schools, and 27 teachers and 12 school council representatives were chosen. School principals take their staff along when they make decisions, and the people that they work closely with, but they sometimes make decisions by themselves. School principles promote the relationship and cooperation between the teachers, positive attitudes in the teachers’ professional development needs of the populace working in public schools to improve the teaching and learning strategies that they use. Many efforts are made to create a positive learning and teaching environment, and to promote the use of information technology in schools to reflect a society-based education system.

Evaluation of Risks for School Directors in Education in Developed / Developing Countries

Abstract In this study, it is aimed to get some ideas about risk analysis on school directors, fix the idea of risk analysis and to determine the kinds of risks in schools in France, Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which work under the control of the Ministry of Education. The study is done through qualitative search patterns of ‘phenomenology’. As a qualitative search, samples related to this study are taken from 37 school principals in England, France, TRNC and Turkey in the 2013-2014 academic year. The school principals in TRNC have done less risk analyse/analysis than the school principals in Turkey. However, it is found that the risk analysed is not part of the strategical plan in both countries. On the other hand, it is found out that the risk analysis is randomly done and it is part of a strategical plan in England and France.

The Impact of Mass Media Tools on Students at the High School Level

Abstract The aim of this research is to investigate the impact of the mass media tools on students who attend the 10th grade secondary education within the formal education system in North Cyprus and their feedback on the use of the media tools. The specific objective is to determine the role and the importance of the mass media tools on students at the secondary level who reside in relatively rural areas and find the opportunity to attend the standardized education system. Observations were made in classrooms and interviews were administered with teachers. During the survey, a total of 95 questionnaires were administered for the students in three different schools. The results of the research reveal that the students are in relation with the mass media tools. Besides, it is observed that students use the knowledge gained from the mass media tools in different fields of their lives.

Digital Transformation in School Management and Culture

Quality becomes milestone for enhancing learning and teaching practices through contemporary standards. In this respect, considering the outcomes of transformation is essential. School management is an umbrella of facilitating learning and teaching. Therefore, role of digital transformation in school management is an intensified need to be underlined. In establishing school culture, school management plays an essential role that digital transformation effects the school management and culture for the quality in education. The nature of this research is qualitative. Reflective reports of headmasters are gathered as data to understand the readability and awareness of school management to the digital transformation in the case of North Cyprus. In addition, content analysis is done to realize the upcoming issues in school management and digital transformation. As this focus is demanding for developing countries especially North Cyprus, this research revealed that headmasters have awareness on the use of digital and techno‐ logical facilities. They are aware on digital transformation although budget and application restrictions are revealed to apply this transformation.

The Impact of Open Leadership in Being Learning Organisations for Professional Learning.

The study examines the impact of being learning organisations in secondary schools culture in fostering professional learning and development. The study sheds a light of qualities of learning organisations to catch change and innovation in digital age. The study has qualitative nature which 26 headmasters become part of the research process voluntarily. The self-reports were employed during the process and thematic analysis was done. Research findings are revealed that headmasters still keep working within the frame of traditional management approach however they reflected that approaching learning organisations is crucial in fostering professional learning. Approaching open leadership and management can be crucial in being learning organisation. In further studies, perceptions and experience of parents, teachers can be examined and experimental studies can be done in detail.

Overcoming Cyberbullying in Childhood: Children as Digital Leaders.

Cyberbulling in childhood may damage learning and development of children in their life. Being aware of cyberbulling and developing societal strategies in protecting cyberbulling are very crucial to set secure learning and development context for the children. It is significant to create atmosphere on leadership of own their learning in digital arena through trainning. This study aims to reflect the experiences and perceptions of experts in order to set strategies for the future as a result of national project on cyberbulling and children as digital leaders in school culture and even in society. The study has qualitative nature which case study approach was employed. The research process is conducted upon workshop with 17 volunteer participants from the experts who are the representatives from various associations. The self-reports are employed as data collection and thematic analysis was done. The findings revealed that trainings on being digital leaders, e-transformation, creating online learning platforms for counseling, game-based learning and film making as public spot in media need to be basic strategies in order to overcome cyberbulling for children as digital leaders in societal level. Further to this, tolerance education and conflict resolution courses and programs need to be included to the curricula.

An Evaluation of Safety and Security of Primary Schools of Cyprus for Welfare of Society

Abstract This case study aims at examining school principals, teachers and parents’ perceptions regarding the issue of safety and security in primary schools of Cyprus in the education for the welfare of the society. Semistructured interview method was used in this qualitative research and school principals, teachers and parents who have children at schools were interviewed using a semi-structured interview form prepared as data collection tool. Thematic analysis was conducted to analyse data. As results, the principals who participated in the study stated that safety is one of the major issues and as principals they face with great difficulties regarding safety issues. The teachers stated that they are not safe at school, either, and that they make great sacrifices so as to help provide school safety which is an indispensable part of their job.

Quality Improvement in Secondary Schools: Developing a School Self-evaluation Scale

Abstract The objective of this study is to develop a “School Self-evaluation Scale”, which can be used todetermine the needs andperceptions of all education stakeholders. The school self-evaluation scale was administeredto 600 students studying in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. The results of the exploratory factor analysis and confirmatoryfactor analysis indicate that School Self-evaluation Scale is valid and reliable (KMO= 0.94, Bartlett’s test, Chisquare=16.918, ÷²/df= 3.08, RMSEA= 0.06, GFI= 0.94, CFI= 0.93, NFI= 0.96, split half test reliability calculatedwith Spearman Brown formula= 0.85 and calculated with Guttman split half technique= 0.94, Cronbach alphacoefficient for overall scale= 0.95 and reliability coefficient of sub items was between 0.75 and 0.92). The schoolself-evaluation scale consists of 38 items and 7 dimensions including teaching staff, school activities, testing andevaluation, school achievement, school administration, school physical environment and school guidance andcounseling.
