Abstract Protective clothing protects the body from external influence like heat, chemicals, mechanical hazards, bad weather, etc. by shielding the human body from harsh environmental effects. The maintenance of thermal balance is one of the most important aspects of protective clothing. The study aims to investigate the thermal comfort properties of woven hybrid fabrics produced with high performance core spun yarns. For this purpose, meta-aramid, e-glass, Technora® and Dyneema® fibres were combined using core yarn spinning method in order to enhance the protective performance characteristics. The effects of the core/sheath ratio and type of core materials on the thermal comfort characteristics were investigated and evaluated statistically. The results revealed that, core/sheath ratio, types of core materials have significant effects on thermal comfort characteristics of the fabrics. As the core ratio increases from 19 to 56%, the air permeability of the fabrics increases whereas their thermal conductivity and thermal absorptivity properties decrease. Meta-aramid/E-glass core fabrics can be preferable for protective clothing due to high air permeability and thermal conductivity values.

Abstract This paper aims to analyse the effect of coating, fabric layers and structural parameters on the impact resistance behaviour of warp knitted spacer fabrics used for protective clothing. For this purpose, six warp knitted spacer fabrics were produced by varying thickness and mesh structure and were coated with a silicone substrate. A drop-weight impact tester was used to determine the impact resistance characteristics of the samples. The results indicate that, the impact resistance properties of warp knitted spacer fabrics can be improved considerably by coating as reducing approximately 10 kN of the peak transmitted force. Also, the structural parameters such as fabric thickness and mesh structure have significant effects on impact resistance behaviour of the samples. The fabrics with higher thickness and smaller size mesh on the outer layers have better impact resistance properties. Additionally, the lamination of spacer fabrics can effectively improve the impact resistance characteristics of the spacer fabrics. The warp knitted spacer fabrics can be used as an energy absorbing material for body protection by varying their structural parameters, fabric lamination and/or by coating.

Abstract Owing to growing demand for comfortable clothes, elastane filament yarns are being used in fabrics for several garments. In this study, core spun yarns were produced with cotton fibres and PBT/elastane filament yarns (cotton as sheath material, PBT yarn and elastane as core yarns). Twill woven (1/3 Z) fabrics were produced by using core spun yarns (30 tex) and cotton yarns (30 tex) as weft, and 100% cotton yarn (59 tex) as warp yarns. The fabrics consisting of PBT were washed at 100°C for 30 minutes to gain the elasticity. The woven fabrics’ weight, thickness, elongation, permanent elongation, dimensional stability, air permeability, thermal conductivity, thermal absorptivity characteristics were tested and statistically evaluated. According to the results, the fabrics containing PBT and elastane filaments had similar elongation and shrinkage values. PBT filament yarns have a great potential to produce lightweight elastic fabrics.

With the developing technology, textile structures in the technical textile products that protect the human body against hazardous environments began to gain importance. Preventing the risks that include the humans facing with the harmful substances and suffering from the bad environmental conditions and human protection are the main target for the production of these textile structures. Although the protective textiles are one of the application areas which have the lowest production ratio among the technical textiles, the demands for the protective clothing rises as the industrial development increases and new standards and the sanctions are being built up about the health, security and hygiene, especially in the developing countries. In recent years, researches in the field of protective textiles have become more attractive and they have provided to produce the protective textiles with different features in different application areas. The aim of this study is to investigate the mechanical hazard resistance properties of knitted fabrics produced by high performance yarns.

Atki ve cozgu ormeciligi yaninda dokuma veya dokusuz yuzey teknikleriyle de uretilebilen sandvic tekstiller, farkli malzemelerin kullanimina izin vermeleri, esnek bir urun araligina ve uc boyutlu yapiya sahip olmalari nedeniyle otomotiv tekstilleri, medikal tekstiller, jeotekstiller, spor giysileri, koruyucu tekstiller ve kompozitler gibi bircok alanda kullanim olanagi bulmaktadir. Ayrica sandvic kumaslar farkli gozenek yapilarinda uretilebileceginden ses absorpsiyonu gerektiren alanlarda da kullanim potansiyeli mevcuttur. Bu calismada, malzeme, kumas kalinligi ve yuzey yapisi gibi kumas parametrelerinin yuvarlak orme makinelerinde uretilen sandvic kumaslarin ses absorplama ozelliklerine etkisi incelenmis ve optimum kumas yapilarinin belirlenmesi hedeflenmistir. Spacer fabrics which can be produced through weaving or nonwoven technique beside warp knitting and weft knitting processes, can be used for functional applications such as automotive textiles, medical textiles, geotextiles, sportswear, protective textiles and composites due to the possibility of using a variety of different materials, flexible product range and the three dimensional construction. Additionally they can also be used for sound absorption applications with different pore geometry. In this study, the effect of fabric parameters like material type, fabric thickness and surface structures on the sound absorption properties of circular knitted spacer fabrics was investigated and aimed to determine the optimum fabric parameters for better sound absorption.
