In this study, thermal properties of different cotton and Angora rabbit fiber blended fabrics were investigated. It is known that cotton fiber has good comfort properties and Angora rabbit fiber is a speciality fur fiber which possesses good softness, whiteness and warmth. The aim of this study was to combine the excellent characteristics of these fibers to produce knitted fabrics with better comfort properties. First, short staple yarns were spun from cotton and Angora rabbit fibers with different blend ratios in two different spinning systems. Then, 1 × 1 rib knitted fabrics were produced with these yarns and the thermal comfort parameters of fabrics were measured on Alambeta and Permetest devices. Finally, according to end use, the optimum ratios were analyzed. The results indicated that the increase of Angora fiber ratio in the fabric and the spinning system affected the thermal comfort properties. The statistical analyses showed that only the fabrics including 25 % of rabbit fiber generated a significant difference on these parameters. Besides, the fabrics knitted from ring yarns had a warmer feeling at first touch and provided more thermal insulation but less water vapor permeability than the fabrics knitted from open-end yarns.

Abstract In this paper, it is aimed at determining the equations and models for estimating the sirospun yarn quality characteristics from the yarn production parameters and cotton fibre properties, which are focused on fibre bundle measurements represented by HVI (high volume instrument). For this purpose, a total of 270 sirospun yarn samples were produced on the same ring spinning machine under the same conditions at Ege University, by using 11 different cotton blends and three different strand spacing settings, in four different yarn counts and in three different twist coefficients. The sirospun yarn and cotton fibre property interactions were investigated by correlation analysis. For the prediction of yarn quality characteristics, multivariate linear regression methods were performed. As a result of the study, equations were generated for the prediction of yarn tenacity, breaking elongation, unevenness and hairiness by using fibre and yarn properties. After the goodness of fit statistics, very large determination coefficients (R2 and adjusted R2) were observed.

AbstractElastic structures are preferred for improving the elasticity and recovery properties of denim fabrics. With the intention of improving comfort during body movements in denim jeans, 10–35% elasticity is required. In this study, the effect of the composition of double-core (dual-core) and core-spun weft yarns and weft density on the mechanical properties of denim fabrics was investigated. For this purpose, different core materials were used in the production of elastic yarns. The sheath material was cotton for all yarn types. Yarn samples were spun with the same yarn count and twist coefficient. 100% cotton Ne 8/1 Ring slub warp yarns were used as warp yarn while double-core and core-spun yarns were used as weft yarns in weaving. The weaving process was performed with three different weft density values (16, 22, and 28 weft /cm) and the other production parameters were kept constant. Abstract Owing to growing demand for comfortable clothes, elastane filament yarns are being used in fabrics for several garments. In this study, core spun yarns were produced with cotton fibres and PBT/elastane filament yarns (cotton as sheath material, PBT yarn and elastane as core yarns). Twill woven (1/3 Z) fabrics were produced by using core spun yarns (30 tex) and cotton yarns (30 tex) as weft, and 100% cotton yarn (59 tex) as warp yarns. The fabrics consisting of PBT were washed at 100°C for 30 minutes to gain the elasticity. The woven fabrics’ weight, thickness, elongation, permanent elongation, dimensional stability, air permeability, thermal conductivity, thermal absorptivity characteristics were tested and statistically evaluated. According to the results, the fabrics containing PBT and elastane filaments had similar elongation and shrinkage values.
